Guys, I'm torn...FNGD help

Re: Guys, I'm torn...FNGD help

I'm a Megadeth fan, but the Schenker is just a better looking guitar IMO. It's got more of the Gibson vibe as well. It's probably light as a feather, though.

Re: Guys, I'm torn...FNGD help

Not a fan of either but the MS is the one I'd choose if I had to.

Re: Guys, I'm torn...FNGD help

Honestly, I don't really like either of them, but the one on top is just plain embarrassing.

What about one of the 35th Anniversary Dean Vs? I absolutely love my ML 35th, and if the V came in Brazil burst instead of just cherry burst, then I would already have one. But I know, based on your Ace Frehley Les Paul love, that you have no such dislike of that finish. It comes stock with an ebony board, Super Distortions, brass chevron, and a hard case. They sell mildy used, B stock, or discounted for $600 to $700. If you can swing it, they are worth the money over a standard Dean V in my opinion.

If you really have to get one of those, the Schenker. Both got fugly headstocks tho. V's need arrow head headstocks!

Re: Guys, I'm torn...FNGD help

Schenker. It'll have a better neck pickup sound cuz of the lack of 24 frets.

All the stupid graphics on the Dean Mustaine V's look atrocious. His non-graphic'd Jackson pointy Vs and even the Y2KV were awesome. If I wanted a pointy Mustaine V, I'd just get an old Jackson model. The Dean straight-string-pull/6-inline headstock also looks plain WRONG on a V. Needs to have 3+3 or 6-inline with angled string pull like the Jackson headstock (Not talking about angling the headstock backwards, but the angles that the strings go from nut to tuners)

Yeah, I'm going with neither. I think once a guy is over 27 years old, guitars like those look juvenile. I know that's an elitist position, but it's true. There is such a thing as an age appropriate image as a guitarist, and both those go way past the line unless you're Dave Mustaine or Michael Schenker.

I couldn't imagine strapping on a Dime graphic guitar or anything of the sort. I can play metal, and even though it's not my favorite genre anymore, even if I did, I'd still feel silly playing a midline stepping stone metal axe.

Hehe.... harsh, but true! I didn't want to shatter poor Ace's dreams or anything, but this pretty much sums up the way I feel about those outlandish looking guitars anyhow. That's why you'll never see me with one of those crazy 80's shred sticks either.

Come on Ace... you can do better than these surely...

And if you're a middle aged guy and you want something "classy", that's as classy as you're going to get with a Flying V. Beautiful guitars!

Re: Guys, I'm torn...FNGD help

^^ '58 style all the way. They also tend to have a lower neck angle and the most decent control layout. V's are about extreme playability, imo, and your funky ones come up short for a couple of reasons, imo, of course.

Let's face it, the Mustaine has poor top fret access - access is what Vs are all about. If I wanted poor access, I'd get a LP or a hollow jazz box.

The Schenker has that stupid headstock which splays the strings considerably - you may spend the rest of your life lubing that puppy unless you fork out some more $$ and get a graphite nut for it.

If you can't swing a Gibson for '58 style, the Epi re-issue ones are supposed to be pretty decent. Now discontinued, they were MIK, came with ABR-1, alnico pups, mahogany body and maple neck. You can find them For $300-600. On reflection, there are some MIC ones too.

Hell, even the Epiphone Jeff Waters is nicer, in my view, than the Deans, the silly inlay and notches on the body not withstanding - it's got 24 accessible frets, simple controls, and '58 spec body and headstock; and if you were to get a red one, you'd be faster than anyone by default.

Good luck with the V quest, soldier.

Re: Guys, I'm torn...FNGD help

You should probably get the one that Andrew Lamprecht posted, because it's the only guitar in this thread that doesn't look retarded.

+1. Bob, I gotta tell you, you're too old for those guitars. You'd just look silly, like a grandma with a wig and white go-go boots. I'm with Andrew on this, '58's are the ultimate V. They look classy in any setting, and you won't have people laughing at you, like you would with the two you suggested.

Re: Guys, I'm torn...FNGD help

Please never, ever, ever get either of those monstrosities. They may sound and play awesome but you'd only be able to play them at home. In the basement. With the lights off and windows boarded up. Blindfolded...

Re: Guys, I'm torn...FNGD help

Andrew's suggestion, full stop.
A gentleman need to be attired
in vintage appropriate tools.

You'd need to buy a wig to go
out in public with those two.
But, if it"s a play at home guitar,
then go with the one that gets those
titties hard!

It's a bit like cross dressing,
only in the confines of one's home.

Luv, Will

Ok - I think you guys need a reality check. The number of guitar players UNDER 35 who know or care who Schenker is , is pretty dang small! But I agree - the black/white is just sort of generically cool. Really goes with anything....

And just because you guys don't have the chops or ballz to play the Peace Sells out, doesn't mean I don't!

As for the 58 Korina, we;ll, I mean, of ciurse, exceptional style and grace is, well, exceptional. even an Epi with a doctored plate...Which makes me really think....

Re: Guys, I'm torn...FNGD help

I vote the top one pictured.
I think the graphics look juvenile but at least it doesn't have that obnoxious faggy headstock.

Re: Guys, I'm torn...FNGD help

I'd say just buy a damn Gibson. But, out of those two? When it doubt, ALWAYS go with Michael Schenker.

Re: Guys, I'm torn...FNGD help

I can't look at an Ed repka piece of art and not like it, so I say the megadeth one. Wouldn't be my first choice of V with artwork, but between those two yes.

Re: Guys, I'm torn...FNGD help

Ok - my first choice was the Rust In Peace V w/ Duncaine Mustaine pickups....but $$$. So that leaves Peace Sells.

And I AM going to get a Dean. They frown upon you playing Gibsons at Dean events....Even the Micheal Schenker plays the Deans.

The Cherry Burst is definitely on the list. That is actually very "me" as V's would go. But I'm feeling like doing something crazy.

What I really want is one of these:

But again, price is a consideration. So until The Price Is Right (COME ON DOOOOWWWWWWWN!!!!!!), it's gonna be Peace or Schenker.
