For a while i've been running it with this setup: bridge volume, neck/middle volume, strat switching, shaved tone pot in the rear..
But i recently started using tone pots quite often. So i drilled it and put a 250k pot on the front with a bypass for the tone circuit.
There are 2 reasons this is useful:
1. It sounds different with the tone on 10 vs bypassing it completely.
2. I can leave the tone pot set where i want it and switch it on or off quickly. This is nice for playing "american woman" or going back and forth between wooly fuzzy tones.
Found a use for the battery box.
