H-S-H to H-H?

Hi guys, I have jackson guitar currently loaded with a duncan distortion in the bridge, a classic stack in the middle and a hotrial in the neck.

Recently after playing afew other guitars I think I prefer the clean tones that come from the middle position on guitars that just have 2 humbuckers.
I'm a total periphery fan boy and I'm all about the cleans Misha gets froms his double bucker guitars.

My question is really, has anyone every exerpminted with a distortion in the bridge and a hotrail in the neck or a similar setup? They're both pretty high output so I'm wonder is it do-able. Or does anyone have any advice on getting those somewhat thicker cleans from a h-s-h guitar?

Any back and forth on the topic greatly appreciated.

You could easily disconnect the middle pickup and tape the wires up so they don't short out anything else.
Then, you could use one of these wiring diagrams to make the guitar only work the neck and bridge pup.

Or, you could easily install a 3 position (Tele) pickup selector in place of the 5 position. This would give you Neck humbucker, Neck & Bridge humbucker, and Bridge humbucker selections.
It's pretty easy to split the humbuckers for the middle position as well with a 3 or 5 way switch if the middle sound is too thick.

As far as how they sound together.......
I have an Edwards KL-170. Neck through guitar with Hot Rails in the Neck (it's actually closer to the position a Middle pickup would be in) and a Custom 5 in the bridge. My guitar is super bright, so take this with a grain of salt. Also, I have never looked to see if the coils are split in the mid position.
The middle position on my guitar has this really odd half single coil, half humbucker sound that I do not know if I like yet. It sounds like both pups are split so that I have 1 coil from the Neck and one from the Bridge positions. It really sounds great clean! With gobs of distortion, I'm still not sure if I like it.

If you want the neck + bridge pickup sound but still require the "Stratty" 2 and 4 positions, get a Superswitch. There are assorted types than can be wired to offer the following combinations.
1 Bridge HB
2 Split Bridge HB + centre.
3 Bridge + Neck
4 Centre + split Neck HB
5 Neck HB

You get what you want in the middle position, but retain those great inbetween sounds of 2 and 4.
