H-S-S Fender Strat question

Hello everyone,

I just recently bought an MIA Strat which is maple neck, alder body etc...

It has H-S-S pickup configuration and and I'm planning to modify its pickups. I totally play NWOBHM style. I'm a Duncan fan and I'm planning to put '59 to the bridge; Duckbucker for the middle and Little '59 for the neck position.

At that point, it would be good to hear your comments for this combination. On top of that, I'm open to different recommendations.

Many thanks,

You should be ok. However, for NWOBHM I would want a bit more bite and punch in the bridge. You might think about one of the Custom pickups, Custom/59 or Custom 5.

Re: H-S-S Fender Strat question

You can do a lot worse than that set, so I think it would be cool. As Securb said, you may want a little more power in the bridge (maybe not...what amp?) and his suggestions are spot on. If you are using a non-master volume Marshall or vintage Marshall-levels of gain, a more powerful pickup can help. If you are using a modern amp with a master volume and gobs of gain, you will be fine.

@Securb, @Mincer;

Many thanks for your advises. I have 2 amps ( Blackstar HT 40 Vintage Pro & Fender EVHIII head ). On the other hand, I'm using Fractal AX8.

Actually it seems instead of 59 I should put Custom 5 for the bridge.

Thanks a lot again.

Re: H-S-S Fender Strat question

Hey! I use an Ax8, too!

The Custom 5 is a pickup I use, too, especially in a guitar I have that is all mids. It really balances it out. I tend to like mids, especially playing in a 1-guitar band, with no other melodic instruments. Both the 59 and Custom 5 are scooped, but the Custom 5 is even more scooped- and the extra power is great into an amp with classic Marshall-levels of gain.
