had a good time with a roland cube

so i go into a music store, play through a bogner for a few riffs, switch to a roland cube 60, and had a lot more fun! go figure. it was the 60x series. I ended up plugging it into the bogner's 4-12 to see how it would rage, and it sounded killer through the cab. the effect "tweaking" is a little hokey on the cube, but it seemed to have a nice array of amp models. it was kind of funny in that the dude who pointed me to the bogner came over after a bit, thought I was still playing through the bogner for a second until he saw me at the cube area. not that it sounded real similar, but you get the drift...that lil' cube was a rockin'.

Re: had a good time with a roland cube

They do have nice cleans, but I thought the distortion was pretty lifeless.

I miss the cleans and chorus of my cube 60...

Re: had a good time with a roland cube

Yes, the Roland Cube's really do bite the dust in the distortion factor. I was out looking for a decent amp last year, I wanted a Roland Cube, but a smaller one (45 or 30 or something). I tried all the sizes and they sucked. I even went to Warsaw in my hunt for decent tone.

Ultimately I bought a VOX VBM1 online. And then a Pathfinder 10. I have never been happier with amps before (atleast in this price range and size! THey're awesome!)

Re: had a good time with a roland cube

From the 2 times I've tried those cube amps, I thought they were terrible. Like everyone else, the Cleans were decent. But then switch to the distortion sounds, and its like someone stuffed the amp into a closet and covered it with blankets.

Re: had a good time with a roland cube

I didn't mind the OD/distortion. It was nice for leads, less nice for rhythms, but through a big cab, it was all good. Of course, I was really wanting to play guitar, so perhaps that helped. But I didn't run right back to the Bogner, which was interesting to me at the time.
