Hair band around the neck?

I've seen several professional bass- and guitarplayers use this. Is this something people would recommend? And disadvantages with it?

It acts as a drool guard?

Re: Hair band around the neck?

Maybee hair band is not the correct term. But it's that thing people with long hair often uses in their hair. Know what I mean?

Not that big. People who have a Mare's tail, horsetail (or whatever you call it...) in their hair uses it.

Re: Hair band around the neck?

they put the band behind the nut to dmapened unwanted overtones and stuff like tihs. Same thing can be done to after the bridge with a piece of tape. it will clean up the sound, but will be useless on a floyded guitar.

Re: Hair band around the neck?

um, the only thing I can think of, Johnny Cash put a dollar around the neck to mute the strings sometimes

Re: Hair band around the neck?

Yeah like a scrunchy or whatever they call them... a wristband also works, but not as well. I just found out about this technique, its done to mute the strings by the top of the guitar so the strings wont feed back during high-gain / loud volume soloing.

Re: Hair band around the neck?

I've seen bass players mostly do this. Suppose it prevents sustain. Guitar, probably if you wanna play atonal percussive funk stuff. Beck weaved a comb at the nut. But so that he'd get crappy buzzes and sitar fx.

Re: Hair band around the neck?

I have a strat that used to have the strings ringing out above the nut before i recut the nut slots a bit.... i was going to use some sort of foam or stuff above the nut to stop the ringing.... it is picked up by the amp and causes overtones!

Re: Hair band around the neck?

I prefer to stick a piece of foam between the headstock and strings. Or rather, I recommend doing it that way, I PREFER to let them ring :laugh2:

But alas, Double locking trems do have disadvantages ;)
