Hamer Monaco Elite...?!

ok...i think i've found my "huckleberry"

i've only looked at the USA Hamer's at a distance, because quite frankly i never thought i'd ever consider forkin out the cash for one and i was afraid that i'd fall in love with it!?!?!?!

well my fears were justified!!! i played a Monaco Elite with premium quilt top in Honey finish...i am blown away...i've never seen such attention to detail...awesome top...great neck...the binding was absolutely unbelievable, it was so thick and rich and just well...perfect...it also had a great neck...more chunk than my moore (a big +) and of course it came loaded with duncans...custom neck and custom custom bridge...it was such a solid piece of wood...about 9lbs i'm guessing, but a playable and comfortable weight...it felt like i really had ahold of something?!

they also gave me a dvd from Hamer that has their history and a guide through their production process and a virtual catalog...i am SO IMPRESSED with this company and it's dedication to doing it the RIGHT WAY and not settling on any aspect of the whole process...absolutely impressive!!!!!

i played it through a Rivera Fandango and it was TOTAL TONAL HEAVEN!!! the fandango has a sparkly lush reverb and crystal cleans of a good ol' blackface and a great high gain channel made after their knucklehead which is supposed to be plexi like (i've never played a plexi, but it rocked like i always imagined a plexi would?!)

i talked to them about ordering one in the color of my choice (rootbeer), but i'm waiting on a studio custom coming in in tobacco burst which i think looks great from the pictures, i'm also going to give the studio a try and see how it compares to the Monaco elite...i don't think it's quite as thick, so i'm guessing it will be more "prs" like and less "paul" like...if i love that color i won't order a rootbeer, but i have to love it, cuz i love rootbeer...i have to have half down to order one...so it's gonna be a couple of months more than likely (after my wife starts work)...they quoted me a $2200 price on it (a premium flame top) with the custom color order (it's not one of their actual colors so he said they would send me samples until they got it perfect!?)

if for some reason i absolutely love the tobacco burst in real life...which is possible judging by the pics...i'll probably hold out for a used one and save some bucks!?

so what do you guys think of them? do any of you own one or have you played them...any experiences at all????

later,
mike

nobody have any experiences with these?! i think they're kinda new...when did they come out?!

Re: Hamer Monaco Elite...?!

I thought the closest thing they made to root beer was "Cognac"

it is...i'd like to see that color...probably not brown enough though...but they said they will make it any color you want...for like 200 bucks more...i figure if i'm gonna do it...might as well get exactly what i want...they'll send samples until it's right?!

Re: Hamer Monaco Elite...?!

Hey Hoss! I like my Hamer Monoco Super Pro even more than my Les Paul 59 RI Historic...and my Les Paul is a great guitar.

The only thing I'd tell you is: BUY A USED ONE! You can find them on Ebay for as low as $1300 sometimes.

Hamers are really consistant. I owned two Monoco Super Pros for a while and they both played identically and sounded exactly the same. In the end I kept the one I thought was a maybe 5% prettier...that was the only diff between the two.

I've been dying to play one. Unfortunately, I can't find a dealer near me. I've been a Hamer supporter for years. For the money, they are up there with the best of them.

Re: Hamer Monaco Elite...?!

I want to try one too. Next year I really want to buy a very nice "Les Paul" type guitar (I've never owned a REALLY nice guitar over $500 P), and I've heard nothing but great things about Hamer. I'm not sure if I want a Gibson or not. So I'd like to hear any comments too! Lew I already knew you rave about your Hamer hehe, sounds like a great guitar. I have to get to some dealers here in Chicago to play some, problem is lots of the dealers don't have many in stock, and probably won't have the Monaco Elite.

Re: Hamer Monaco Elite...?!

yeah...there usually isn't alot of Hamer stock in stores...after all i think they still only build a few guitars a week?! i would love to see the cognac color but i can't find one to see in person...?!
