Hamer SATF/Phat Cats for Robben Ford Tone

Always intended to add a clip of the project I did with the SATF.
Here's a version of "Help The Poor" from a Harmony Central electric Guitar jam thread. It's not a "flat" representation of the pickups, but what I can get with my guitar. Recorded into a Line 6 Guitar Port.

Here it is (warts and all).

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6957323

First passes are neck pickup with fingers (the rest with a pick), bass cut, mids cut to 3.
Middle passes are bridge pickup, full range, volume on 7, mids on 7.
Final passes are volume on 10.

Brett,

Beautiful playing, great tone, absolutely gorgeous Hamer!:14:

Excellent clip.

Gotta love Hamers!

Thanks,

Jeff

THanks for the kind words. Even though it's an import (got it used) it's still my favorite guitar.

very nice playing brett .... i like your phrasing ... the tone is very sweet too ... the end-to-end chain really lets your picking dynamics show through ... nice 'sqwawk' when you turn up and dig in too

what toneport model amp did you use?

stoking my p90/phat cat gas

thanks for sharing

Wow! Thank you. I'm just amazed at what you can get out of these pickups.

Amp model-wise CC 1967 Double Show from the Collector Classics Model Pack with the Line 6 4x12 cabinet, and Tube Drive stomp box from Fx Junkie Model Pack (drive:81, gain:100, treble:62, bass:61). EQ has a dip at 450Hz and 1.8kHz, slight boost at 270Hz and a bigger boost at 3.0kHz. Compressor threshold is set to 30 to tame the peaks when I dig in.

Thanks, bro. I enjoyed it.

You have a great "feel" for the tune. Nice touch.

Re: Hamer SATF/Phat Cats for Robben Ford Tone

Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it. It's funny how certain pickups pull certain things out in your playing and actually cause you to enhance them even more. I may have to install them on another guitar of different wood or make (semi hollow?)

Absolutely beautiful playing, sweet tone and great guitar too.

What model is the other Hamer (3rd from left) from your signature picture?

Thank you very much. That one is a Sunburst Archtop Quilt top
Also an import. Had a fret dressing and TonePros bridge and tailpiece put on before I replaced the electronics and tuners. This one was to be a backup for the Brian Moore i21 in my avatar. The electronics came out great so I further customized the i21's electronics to basically match the SATQ.

. . .it's a sickness, I know. . .

Tasty riffs! First thought was Steely Dan, very kool. I have the Gibby P94s in my Epi Riviera, I think you'll really dig what Phat Cats can do in a semi hollow.

Re: Hamer SATF/Phat Cats for Robben Ford Tone

Thanks. Steely Dan's another favorite. I'll have to look into another semi hollow or even a full hollow jazz box for the Phat Cats.

Re: Hamer SATF/Phat Cats for Robben Ford Tone

Excellent chops and that sounds great. I have been thinking about that Goldtop P-90 import Hamer for a while you might have pushed me over the top.

Re: Hamer SATF/Phat Cats for Robben Ford Tone

Thanks a lot for the comments. The Talladega and import Goldtop are what pushed me to do job I did on the SATF. I really like having the series/parallel option for the Phat Cats. With the right amp settings, it gets a great Brian May type tone.
