Hamer slammer series

I picked up a used gamer slammer series Korean made sunburst guitar used for 300. I like the guitar and immediately switched it to a set of alnico 2 pro pickups and it sounds great. It's set up for 9s and I play 10s so I am curious to see how the guitar both sounds and reacts to a higher string gauge. I cannot find any information as to what this guitar sold for new and I am hoping I didn't pay too much I also have no idea what kind of wood this guitar is made of. Anyone know about these guitars and it's not to late to replace it what's your opinion?

Join the Hamer forum they know all about Hamers.
The Slammer Series are very good guitars, not to be confused with the Slammer which werent anything like as good.
I dont know how much they cost new but I would say they are on a par with the Epiphones of the time, so cost it from there.
I have one with a pair of Dimarzio PAFs, new toggle switch and CTS pots in it and its a lovely guitar. I put Grovers on it as well.

Hi,

If you go from nines to 10's, you will most likely benefit by adjusting the saddles so it plays in tune better as you go up and down the neck. While you are at it, might as well adjust the string height to taste. Make sure to set height before intonating.

Re: Hamer slammer series

i had a Hamer Slammer copy of a Hamer Standard. It was a pretty crappy guitar. Picked it up for 200 bucks. The construction was ok, but the materials were pretty bad. No idea what the body was made of (it was coated in a super thick layer of polyurethane). The neck was supposedly maple and a rosewood fretboard, but both were pretty bad pieces of wood. Not very stable. It had a few dead spots that I couldn't work out despite the best of my setting up abilities. Probably a crappy truss rod too. Fretwork was otherwise decent, and the hardware was made of some crap material that was very poorly covered in some nickel or chrome type material. The thing had virtually no sustain or tone to speak of. I ended up selling it to a buddy of mine who needed a beater guitar.

Re: Hamer slammer series

There are two Slammer/Hamer releases. Hamer Slammer Series and Slammer by Hamer. HSS are made in Korea and the ones I have played have been decent guitars for the most part. S/H are Indonesian and not usually the best vut they are the under $200 line.

Cant tell you what the cost of your's might have been without more info/photos of what you have.

Enjoy your new guitar. :cool2:

Here is a Hamer Slammer Series Sunburst model I own. :naughty:

Re: Hamer slammer series

Yup. Two different Slammer Series.

One from the early to late 90's that was REALLY good.

One from the early 00's that doesn't compare.

I've played a bunch of the good ones and own an old Hamer Californian Slammer. Great guitars for the money!

Throw up some pics so we can see whatcha got!

Re: Hamer slammer series

Here are some of the Korean made Hamer pictures I need to find out more about this guitar the year it was made the type of wood ect. But man it sounds awesone with the Slash PUs!!

Re: Hamer slammer series

Sunburst Archtop Model probably late 90's early 2000's. Right at about $450-$600 new IIRC.

Re: Hamer slammer series

So 300 before taxes wasn't a complete rip off. The tuners seem really loose like they have been oiled or something I am thinking about replacing them but not sure what to get or where I'm kinda tight on my budget lol.

Well, cheaper guitars do sometimes tend to have poor quality tuners but the guitar itself is a good instrument.
I got a set of black grovers last week for a BC Rich of mine for £22 on ebay. If you keep your eye open you will find a bargain - Grovers will fit on that guitar BTW, I have a set on mine.

Re: Hamer slammer series

I ordered a set of Grover tuner they are the mini chrome ones and I can't remember if it is 12:1 or 14:1. I never purchased tuners before but hope the minis werent a mistake I know the are for 6 in line tuning pegs and my guitar is 3 each side. Anyway the price was really good so jumped on purchasing them I should get them on the next few days. I was curious if changing the nut would bring about any different tonal charateristics I just read that in one of van halens guitars had a brass nut not sure though. I'm not going to do anything like that just curious lol. I have been trying to get onto the hamer forum filled out the required information and afterwards I got a statement that said we are going to do a review to decide if u can be a member in out forum. I thought that was weird never had anything like that happen before. Hopefully I am worthy enough lol. But seriously I would like to find out more about this guitar when it was made exactly how much it sold for what versions like it sell for as well as specs and other general questions

Re: Hamer slammer series

I dont think buying 6 inline tuners for a 3x3 tuner guitar is a good way to go.

Re: Hamer slammer series

I reread the tuning peg description and it says in line machine heads for 3 + 3 headstocks. That's what I need right? From what understand they are a little smaller so people with big fingers can turn the easily I guess? Think I should ship them back once I get them they were purchased from amazon? Or do you think 3 + 3 means they will work right for my guitar. Sorry for the ignorant questions
