Re: Hamer Slammer strat copy?
Okay... we have to separate the import Hamers from the USA Hamers. When people refer to "Hamer" you are referring to a guitar made in the old USA factory in Hartford Connecticut or the previous factory in Arlington Heights Illinois.
Hamer is over, Fender killed the brand.
Hamer made a huge mistake of partnering up with Bill Kaman to start manufacturing a lower quality import line of guitar which were at first made in Korea and then made in China (xt series). The quality of these import Hamers has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of their USA guitars... it's like comparing a Squire to an American standard strat IMHO. A Squire will never even see the USA Fender factory and will go straight from Asia to the music store... it's the same way with import Hamers.
So, are the parts on your import Hamer of any quality? Absolutely not. Will they get the job done and perform as expected to within their known tolerances? Maybe, maybe not.
So the reputation of Hamer as being a high quality guitar brand does not extend to the import line. Their import line is similar quality to a Samick.
I play USA Hamers and I also have an Xaviere travel guitar made in China of bottom of the barrel parts. Bottom of the barrel guitar parts have all taken a step up in quality the last 20 years so... I actually really like my Xaviere. On paper it is a piece of junk, but in reality it plays beautifully and has totally adequate if not decent tone.
Your Slammer might be a really good guitar, it's just not really something any of us would know without playing it.
I feel like you mistook the reputation of Hamer's USA line and applied it to their import line... this confusion is typical and is probably 50% of why Hamer is now defunct and dead as a doornail. There's just a few of us USA Hamer players left, we are a dying breed and aren't being replaced with the younger generation. Tone of import hamers out there though, they can be purchased for very cheap.
I rambled a lot but I hope this helps.
