Hamer Vector or Dean V?

Re: Hamer Vector or Dean V?

Import? USA? Korina? Mahogany with without flametop? New? Used? If used, newer or older?

Re: Hamer Vector or Dean V?

You get used to the Dean headstock quickly. I hated them for 26 years now I own 18. 5 Vs. Own 3 Vectors but 24.5 Hamers. I say Aceman should swing by and try them out see which he likes.

Re: Hamer Vector or Dean V?

I owned a Dean V back in the early 80's, and don't really know if it's comparable to today's fare. Keeping that in mind:

1) I don't like the Dean headstock on a V (on an Explorer, I think it's OK, go figure)

2) My Dean had a V neck that I did not like. V necks are bad enough on vintage-correct Fenders, but on a Gibson style guitar, it's just plain weird.

So I say Hamer, but what do I know? I've owned nothing but Telcastes since 1985.

Not familiar with the Dean, but I've owned the USA made Hamer Vector, which is the korina 58 copy and its top-shelf for sure.

Re: Hamer Vector or Dean V?

Havent played a USA Hamer, but the USA Deans I've played were definitely top notch guitars. From what i have heard about Hamers though i would have thought it was more of a case of personal preference rather than one guitar simply being better than the other

I actually like the Dean headstock. But really - other than that, could you flip a coin? Are they really that different?

And if so in what major areas? Other than headstock...

Sounds like an offer too good to pass up

Re: Hamer Vector or Dean V?

Without trying at least a couple of both, Hamer, I just like them better, both as a company (the way the do things) as well as aesthetics.

For some reason when I think of Hamer I think of class.
When I think of Dean I just think Hooters girls holding guitars...

Re: Hamer Vector or Dean V?

What about between the Korean Vector and the Dean 79V?
:eyecrazy: :cool2:

79 Series V. Only cause of the variety of finish choices. Import Vectors Cherry Sunburst and Black. Deans in at least 6 flavors. Non V shaped necks on import Deans but newer and Vintage are V shaped. '96 USA Deans C shaped or fat baseball bat type roundish necks.

Re: Hamer Vector or Dean V?

I never liked the dean huge headstocks either until I bought one . . . I was watching this Dave Mustaine youtube vid where he was praising Dean for their solid feel in your hands. . . So I bought a razorback on a whim and truthfully I laughed when it came in . . . that sucker is huge! BUT! when I started playing it and slapped in a SH-6 . . . I haven't been playing the others very much since. . . . It plays like a dream and I can flat WAIL ON IT! sounds even better. Love that big fat ugly headstock now.

Absolutely. My pref is for Hamer but a USA Dean is one fine guitar.
