where the heck are they sold? the big stores don't carry them. the web site doesn't have dealer info, just authorized repair centers.

Re: hamer

Hamer is dead and gone. They may support their existing stuff, but they don't produce guitars anymore.

Re: hamer

They are no longer building new guitars. Pretty much in a support/warranty mode now for current customers. Your best bet is to seek out used.

Re: hamer

I believe Fender bought the parent co. Kaman Music and ended up dropping the brand.

More like "Fender bought a competitor, then put some muppets in charge who ruined consumer confidence in the brand, then simply closed it instead of re-selling it".

At the same time Fender and their guitar center buddies are in financial trouble so that worked out great for everybody.

Re: hamer

Does this also mean Ovation is finished?

Yeah, I'll loose a lot of sleep when Bain finally chops up GC. They were in debt before Bain bought them in 2007. I'm sure Fender will make it but I doubt GC will.

Re: hamer

Hamer had been destroying their reputation for years, through putting the name on confusing imports and having no game plan for the company, before Fender bought them.
I hate how Fender does business and maybe it's better they pulled the plug rather than make the Hamer brand even worse.
Get a used USA Hamer they are great guitars and usually a bargain.

Re: hamer

Are the imports still being made?

It's unfortunate. Hamer's quality and craftsmanship were top notch, and since becoming a small shop in CT sometime in the late 90's, had only gotten better. Their USA guitars made within the last several years, with their stunning binding and inlay work, were amazing.

I have run into people though, who never knew Hamer was a USA guitar maker, and thought they were a foreign company.

Re: hamer

The Hamer Fan Club is actually the best place to get used Hamers. The prices are always completely realistic and with all of the Hamer nerds on hand... you'll always know if everything is kosher or not. There is a large database of serial numbers at the Hamer Fan Club too. Wonderful people on that site, even the biggest buttjabs are pretty nice guys.

Re: hamer

I've been a huge Hamer fan since the first time I saw Cheap Trick in 1979 or so, but never owned one. I recently grabbed a Hamer Slammer Series "Sunburst" which is an early Korean import, and perhaps one of the best Hamer imports. It's great little guitar - good, resonant unplugged tone - and made of some nice wood. Due to all the confusion over Hamer imports and their varying reputations (plus being a little beat-up) I got it for cheap. I have a 59/Custom hybrid and a 59N (ex-Lucid-owned) that I'm going to put it in.

If anyone is intersted, I know of a store not far away that has four Hamer double-cuts in stock; two imports, two US-made, spanning prices from $250 to $1200. All nice guitars; wish I could afford to have 'em all. If you're interested, PM me for details.
