Handwinding Pickups

Re: Handwinding Pickups

real honest hand winding... been there, done that. hope not to do it again lol

I hope to someday figure out a way to get this sound with a machine-turned bobbin, but til then, or till arthritis or something strikes...

The wire is delicate but it's not THAT delicate. The trick is just developing the ability to keep the turns between the flanges at higher "wrapping" speeds. Breaks come only when your wrap goes outside the flanges and snags on something, and even then it's rare. 43 has to be handled a bit more carefully because it's even thinner, but still it's a little tougher than you would think.

Re: Handwinding Pickups

i was half joking when i said i hope not to do it again. its such a pita compared to machine turned bobbin hand guided but i need a couple single coils for one of my guitars so i know ill have to do it sooner or later. ill do it for myself but its almost not worth the money to do it for someone else. i love winding pups but i enjoy playing my guitars on stage a hell of a lot more. its hard to drink and spin a good pup :D
