Happy NAD! EVH 5150iii 1x12...

Re: Happy NAD! EVH 5150iii 1x12...

The 1x12 version is not much smaller than the 2x12. The amount of cabinet that the 1x12 is mounted in is huge!
It's obnoxious loud at 1 watt. The loudest 1 watt I have ever heard. It kills my Blackstar HT5 at 1 watt.
50 is just obsecene, I'll never use that much amp.

It's loud. Especially if you are pushing a 12'' that can handle it through an open back cab.

It's a closed back cab by the looks of it but the EVH literature says it has special internal baffels. I am guessing that's how they tuned the speaker and made it move that much air.

Ive been thinking about getting the 1x12 combo. If you turn it down to 1 watt and turn the volume way down, is it still too loud for bedroom use?

It is a closed back cab and has thump like you wouldn't believe. (Especially if it is off the wheels) I find the attenuation unnecessary. At 1 watt it is fine for bedroom use, but you can just keep it at 50 watts and turn the master down low. The master is so good that it doesn't make any difference. Actually, when I need to play very quietly, I prefer to keep it at 50 watts and keep the the master low versus keeping the master high and using the attenuation knob.

Nope its fine then.. I leave mine on 1 watt and the volume on 1. It is fine for bedroom use, at those settings it draws zero complaints from my wife.

I haven't thought of that yet. Thanks for the info! You are spot on, it hits and moves some air.

Re: Happy NAD! EVH 5150iii 1x12...

I have the 50 watt head with 2 1x12 EVH cabinets...

The cabinet on the combo is wider since the head is wider to make room for the 2 extra knobs for reverb and attenuation.

The baffles on the 1x12's are tilted from inside at a slight angle, so the sound moved upward a bit.

With the resonance control on the back, the 1x12's get a huge sound from only one speaker
