a buddy of mine wants to get rid of the emgs he has in his mahogany SG that he built. he's looking for a hard rock/hair metal tone. 2 humbuckers. any suggestions?
Custom/Jazz, Custom/'59, Possibly the Distortion instead of Custom, depending on how high gain he wants to get.
edit: some people favour the Custom 5 for SGs since they have lots of mids and less oomph than LPs, and the C5's EQ helps to add more bass and sharper high end response.
If it's an SG he built then typical SG assumptions may be out the window... is it a 1-3/8" set neck SG a la Gibson, or a 1-3/4" bolt-on like something you would build through a company like Warmoth?

My guitar's body and neck is solid mahogany and I love the pick ups it came with . The forum members were very helpful in giving me all the input I needed . My axe has a Custom III on the bridge and SHII on the neck .
It's super sounding to me and many others who listen to it's sound . I was thinking of changing them till my main man Chan Romero said they had that classic 50sand 60s sound . So with that I am making no changes to this guitar .
