Hardcore Tele

Been in the market for a cheap back-up guitar to use for a couple drop-d songs i have. Seeing this tele thread of Jolly's has given me a brainstorm that could be totally retarded, i don't know. Maybe i could get this H-S squire tele and put some heavy duncans in it. It would make more sense than getting a squire strat as i would one day like to get a high end strat. This way i'd have more 'flavors' so to speak. My question is, what do you guys think about this. Doomed idea, or not? What are the heaviest uses you have ever heard of a tele in music?

Re: Hardcore Tele

John 5 uses a tele . . . and he plays some pretty heavy metal type stuff . . .

Re: Hardcore Tele

Hey man, if you can find a squier tele and it works for you, do it! I've thought about getting a tele myself!

Re: Hardcore Tele

If you're gonna have humbuckers in it, my vote goes for a Schecter PT Tele.

Re: Hardcore Tele

I'm liking this idea more and more. It will give me the ability to create some off color tones.

Re: Hardcore Tele

I use my stock MIA Tele for everything. I don't play hardcore metal or stuff like that but anything from blues to classic rock to 80's metal to some 90's stuff, no problem.

Re: Hardcore Tele

Hey Jolly, do you mean just for heavier stuff or just in general?

Mostly the heavier stuff. Although, I have acouple of Schecters PT Teles with a push/pull to go to single coil tones, and I can get alot of different sounds out of them.

Re: Hardcore Tele

Chris Spencer from Unsane always plays a Tele. Music rarely gets any more hardcore than this.

ha! i beg to differ! music very very often gets more hardcore than this...

but anyways yeah i think with the right pickups theres no reason a tele couldnt be used for metal. teles have lots of treble which would actually work well for downtuning.

Re: Hardcore Tele

I almost bought the J5 Tele, the Mexican made one the custom shop one is tre cher. Anyhow, I think it is a great guitar though the action was a little high on the one I tried out.

I agree ...they make some nice humbucker teles. And even if you want single coil ... I really like the Schecter PT Vintage ... you can get them for about $300 still. I love mine.
