Hartman TOMMY BOLIN fuzz pedal

Re: Hartman TOMMY BOLIN fuzz pedal

Thanks [ hey that pedalboard looks too clean , lol ]
was there a pic of the inside ? Any opinion on how it differs from
the colorsound overdrive or any of the other two transister fuzzes ?

I like that slightly squishy feel , without it sounding farty or low battery
crapping out

regards Greg

No, but I can snap one ... tomorrow night. I won't be home until very late tonight ...

Oh yeah; it's a totally different beast. You can hear it on the clip I linked. It's not really fuzzy at all; more like a subtle colouration. It does not boost the output at all; at max volume it is at unity gain.

This is a low-gain, very cutting fuzz that does not mask your playing at all.

I would probably look elsewhere if I were you, then. That being said, it does exhibit more of these types of characteristics when you run it on a 9V battery; with a DC power supply, the pedal cleans up a lot and has a much faster attack/increased dynamics. I much prefer it with a power supply over running it with a battery.

If you are looking for a Coloursound type of fuzz, however, this is probably not going to be your cup of tea.

Re: Hartman TOMMY BOLIN fuzz pedal

I have the Analogman AstroTone Fuzz which is a similar take on the Bolin Sam Ash-style unit - its a kickass box.

This thread needs more Tommy Bolin:

The Astro Fuzz is great! It is not a replica of Bolin's unit, however. It starts with the Sam Ash fuzz and then adds several nice features. I really want one, but have yet to get round to picking one up!

I never said it was a replica, I said it was similar.

Mike's take addresses quite a few shortcomings of the original circuit like the low output and adds a Tone control that enables a fuller sound when you can't run your amp wide open like you needed to do with the original.

I'd love to compare it to the Hartman - Theo does nice work.

Re: Hartman TOMMY BOLIN fuzz pedal

I think most people don't want a decrease in volume when they step on a fuzz pedal, but hey variety is the spice of life and all that.

I totally agree. Was just being cheeky. :)

I run my amps full out so the boost is not needed. In fact, I run a Heavy Electronics Descend to clean up my tone, and keep my drive pedals on!

Re: Hartman TOMMY BOLIN fuzz pedal

I take it the volume controls on your guitar are stuck open or something?

2 of my guitars have volume controls, but I rarely use 'em. The rest do not. I've never really been into the roll-back-the-volume-control thing ...

You're missing out on some awesome free tones then. 1/2 the charm of most fuzzes is their volume pot interaction - most good drives too.

Re: Hartman TOMMY BOLIN fuzz pedal

funny....Hartman Electronics sent me this link via facebook today...

....wonder if theo will make a Steve Stevens pedal?

Re: Hartman TOMMY BOLIN fuzz pedal

I ended up making the astro circuit from fsb , it was a little thin for me
so I increased the size of the coupling caps like in the analogman version
and it's pretty groovey now .............especialy as I discovered [ was taught ] ran into a partially distorted amp , would still like to get the hartman
one someday , but it's decadent for me for home use . thanks for everything
