Has anyone here tried the String Butler?

Re: Has anyone here tried the String Butler?

The problem with this solution is screwing into the headstock. If the String Butler is non invasive and reversible then that’s an ideal solution.

I agree that it is the best solution as far as ease of use goes, but I think if you have the skills to drill it in yourself, it looks a lot better if you do it right. It won't have the plastic part covering the inlay headstock and will have a neater appearance. The only trouble with that is finding the right screw. Does anyone know what I could use? I'm thinking basically a fillister without threads or a slot, more or less a threadless stud with a head, any ideas?

Re: Has anyone here tried the String Butler?

I would NOT be willing to drill into my headstock to try it.

Re: Has anyone here tried the String Butler?

Have you tried Nut Sauce or any type of nut lubricant?

I did try it, but found that once I’d filed the slots for gauge and angle, I didn’t need to (on any of my guitars).

And I have to say that I’d rather go with filing the nut for smooth string-pull than putting extra screws in my headstock

At first I read the post as string butter... I dont have much binding issues, but if it attaches to just the tuning posts with no violation of the headstock and doesnt cost much, Id try one on my epi LP.. ( Looked it up... $45. ) Nope.. But pretty clever idea methinks

Wow... $45 huh? I was curious but didn't take the time to look it up. Seems kinda steep. I think I'd have to be in a really desperate place in order to justify that price.

I would think that $20 would be about the max I'd consider.

YEah, Im thinking $20-25 too.

Re: Has anyone here tried the String Butler?

I've got one sitting on my kitchen table that I keep meaning to try...

I originally bought it to stick on my L.P. Junior but I was able to stabilize the tuning on that with some Graphite. Most of my other 3X3 guitars have nuts that were cut properly so I don't see any reason to put some gaudy hardware on their headstocks. Also, I'm a bit worried about the metal to wood contact (The little plastic nuts included are completely useless with my tuners), I'd imagine it could mess up a thin Gibson finish pretty quickly if you're not careful???

I have a older Joe Pass Emperor coming in later today. Since its a Epi. there's at least a 50/50 chance that the nut will be poorly cut & to be perfectly honest I hate replacing/re-cutting nuts on any guitar!!! It's just so tedious/time consuming to do correctly & I have a severe lack of patience....

So I f this "String Butler" thing let's me avoid having to go through all that perhaps it will find a permanent home after all???

Re: Has anyone here tried the String Butler?

A guy from another forum I frequent just posted that he has bought one of these and it has solved the tuning issues with his Paul.
It is a little more expensive than I’d like to pay but if it fixes an issue then I suppose it’s worth it.

I suggested that because the OP said he was going to take the parts out of the Butler and screw them directly into the head. Occasionally it's a good idea to read what you're responding to.

(redacted)

I beg your pardon. Sorry if you didn't like my appropriate advice. I wasn't trying to "prove" anything.

By the way...look who's talking about being a decent person..

So, they invented a way to retrofit string trees that Strats have had for more years than I've been on this earth, on a LP headstock.

Cool but I'd hardly call it revolutionary.

Well, it’s not really the same. A string tree pulls the string DOWN to INCREASE tension on the nut with a STRAIGHT headstock. This thing pulls the string OVER to DECREASE tension on the nut on a TILT-BACK headstock..

Way to be a complete dick about it.
Occasionally you could try acting like a decent person when proving how “right” you are.

Now you’re repeating your post in an attempt to goad me into an argument? That’s called harassment.

Easy there tigers, if you want to start a verbal debate just find yourselves a dead tonewood thread to resurrect. That's what they're there for.

Re: Has anyone here tried the String Butler?

did you report this cause you wanted an infraction for calling someone a name?

Re: Has anyone here tried the String Butler?

If it gets me an infraction, so be it.
What I don’t need is somebody egging me on to an argument when I was willing to just let it go after the first time he responded.
As far as my insult goes....if the shoe fits...
