Has anyone put EMG 85/81 pickups in a Schecter C-1?

Whats up guys i have a Schecter C-1 Blackjack and it has Seymour Duncan 59' in the neck and JB in the bridge. Most of the other C-1's like the elite, XXX etc. have the "duncan designed" set with the Jazz/JB combo and they sound a little more towards the sound i want but not perfect. This combo on my guitar is kind of dark and smooth sounding. I'm looking for something with more crunch and aggressive but not too ear piercing or anything. JB is kinda bright but for some reason just doesn't quite do it for me for metal. I do like the bass from both of these pickups though.

Considering this is a dark sounding guitar would EMG's be a good choice? I'm not an all metal type of guy. I play metal, hard rock, and blues type stuff. These pickups are very nice, but don't seem to suit metal and 80's type hair metal on this particular guitar. Its my only guitar right now. later i plan to buy a Fender MIM strat, and something like a Gibson SG, but for right now i need to make this guitar an all arounder. But i don't mind if it leans a bit towards heavier music like metal, but it does need to be good for everything else too.

If not emgs is there something else thats as much or cheaper that is as hot and better for what i'm looking for?

Thanks :smokin:

Oh at GC the guys there were recommending the distortion set (for both N and B). And also an invader and dimebucker

If you're not a metal guy, I wouldn't suggest EMG's.

The guys at Guitar Center are douchebags, but the DD in the bridge might work well for you. An Invader would be muddy, and the Dimebucker is hollow sounding to my ears.

If you do go for EMG's, though, put and 85 or 707 in the bridge.

i know i sound like a broken record to all the regulars, but the bill lawrence L500's. they would actually be perfect for you in my opinion. an XL500 bridge and L500clean or regular in the neck is amazing. they may take awhile to make them and send them out, but it is more than worth the wait. especially for the price.

Maybe a Custom bridge and Full Shred neck? Or Jazz neck...

A Distortion will probably take you too far down into Metal-Land to be versatile enough for you. Though it's a great pup...

A Custom can kick some serious a$$ but is much more versatile. I think a Jazz (USA-made, not one of the Duncan Designed) will do the trick in the neck. I've heard Duncan Design neck pups that are indistinguishable from the USA, and others that are weak and pathetic sounding, so you may not have heard an accurate "Jazz sound" in the Designed pups you've heard.

If the Jazz isn't bright enough for you, a Full Shred should work.

This is all IMHO, my 2¢, YMMV, etc. etc. etc.

Cheers

Just recently when I was still looking for a guitar, I played a Schecter c1+ with those EMGs. I'll tell you this. The distortion was very, very nice. It was thick and the lead tone was very nice. I truly liked it. However, the cleans were not great. They easily got distorted. If I were you, I'd stick with the good ol' Seymour Duncan pickups.

I find my cleans great with a good amp and some reverb. Any hot Duncan bridge pickup will distort the clean channel, too.

hmmmmm so if i do get a Jazz neck what do you guys recommend for the bridge? The jazz is more aggressive and bright right?

The full shred is brighter, whereas the jazz has a rounder tone.

The distortion might get you into the right direction. Actually a Full Shred set might be right up your alley.

I have a Schecter C1 Classic that came with a JB/Jazz set. I switched to emgs and now I have dual 85s and it sounds great. If you want to keep more versatility, I recommend an 85/81 in the bridge and a 60 in the neck. The 60 has less output than the 85 and better clean.
