Can you crank a tube amp to its sweet spot in those friends and family parties? If yes then get a real tube amp, if not then get a modeler with an FRFR speaker. Or if you are going to get a Fender Deluxe Reverb, then have a listen to the Fender Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb, it's a modelling combo and the sound can be attenuated to your playing situations. If you have money get bothI was just minutes before pulling the trigger for my first all tube amp, and probably I will because I feel in love with its sound when tried it, but I feel intrigued by this. I don't play in venues, just with friends and family parties. What will a person like me who wants to enjoy the "amp in the room sound" would miss if I played let's say a UA Lion into a FRFR like Fender FR-12 for example?
A modeler in an FRFR speaker will never be like a crank tube amp in the room, mainly because you are earring the sound at different points in the live/recording chain (amp/cab vs amp/cab/mic/preamp/frfr). They are both good and different. A modelling combo would be closer to its real counterpart IMHO, one being better than the other depending of the situation (high volume vs low volume as an example).
