Have you ever left stock pickups in a guitar?

Re: Have you ever left stock pickups in a guitar?

I usually replace all the pickups in a guitar or bass, but there have been a good number of exceptions:

1.) Kramer Focus 1000. Whatever that humbucker was (Schaller?), it was perfect for that guitar.
2.) Kramer Focus 8000 bass. Again, assuming those were the original pickups, they got it right the first time.
3.) Jackson SL3. JB & Hot Rails. Don't mess.
4.) Fender Lonestar Strat. Texas Specials & Pearly Gate Plus. What's not to like?
5.) Gibson Faded V. 496R & 500T. Ya damn right.
6.) Ibanez JEM 7DBK. Breeds & Breed single-coil. It's hard to do better in a basswood guitar like that, for what I play.
7.) Jackson SL2HT. JB & '59. (I'll just pretend I didn't have an A2 in the '59 neck for several years.)

yes actually in a couple of my guitars ive left them alone. My main guitar which is an ec1000 came stock with the jb/59 set. I was very pleased with that combo.

My CIJ '52 Tele still has the Texas Specials, and they work great for how I use the Tele!

Re: Have you ever left stock pickups in a guitar?

I have a 2006 ES335 Satin that I LOVE the stock pickups in it. Generally speaking I like all of Gibson's pickups.

Re: Have you ever left stock pickups in a guitar?

I'v always changed pickups on mine, never left one stock (so much fun to mess with pickups....)

Re: Have you ever left stock pickups in a guitar?

Only the ones i didnt own very long, otherwise no.

Re: Have you ever left stock pickups in a guitar?

My ESP Ltd EC1000T has Alnico Pro IIs stock. They aren't coming out. My Jag now has Curtis Novak vintage winds in it. My Blacktop Strat's pups are excellent for my purposes. They are staying in place.

Yep if the stock set up works well I won't mess with it.
2 examples in guitars I now own would be my 1990 Carvin X220C and the PRS Custom 24 I own.
Carvin has the stock M22SD/ M22V set up and the PRS the HFS/VB with the 5 way rotary.
Both have a their own vibe and set of unique tones that I really dig. The tones with the stock electronics in both these guitars play a large part in what makes them unique and me love them.
I have others that have been very highly modded so I go both ways.

I modify nearly everyguitar I get. Straplocks, setup and pickup change and big trem block on my floyds. A couple still have stock pickups but have the magnets replaced. (All my Customs become Custom 8s) I believe the only guitars I have that have bone stock pickups, came with Duncans.
1986 Kramer Pacer has a JB/jazz
1997 Washburn MG130 Has JB and Cool Rails Neck and middle
1997 Washburn MG130 Has a The stock Cool Rails in neck and bridge
2011 Bc Rich US Gunslinger Has stock Duncan Distortion in bridge, JB in the neck

Yes... 2008 Gibson Custom '61 LP/SG Custom. Has '57 Classics, which are very similar to SD Seth Lovers (one of my faves).

Before I bought it, I planned in my mind to change the pickups because Gibson isn't known for great modern-day pickups. I was wrong after I plugged it in and played it the first time. Haven't changed anything on the guitar, in fact - dead stock.

Dig your amp/cab rig!

I've usually changed out at least the bridge, and sometimes the neck. Very few guitars over the years that I kept for any amount of time didn't at least get the bridge changed out.

However, about a year ago I picked up a 1993 MIA Tele, and I have no desire to change anything, which surprised me. But, hey...

Re: Have you ever left stock pickups in a guitar?

I left the stock pickups in my Squier Classic Vibe 60 Stratocaster, because they sound really good. i think it's no worth spending cash on new ones because i really like them stock. i made a bad decision putting SH-5 Custom in my Les Paul, because i already have SH-6 Distortion in my SG, and i think i don't need another high output ceramic pickup in Les Paul, so now i am looking for some vintage low output PAF to replace the Custom. because i am not just metal player, i really like some vintage bluesy rock too:)
