Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

I suppose the tweed Bassman would be the best example of this, but nowadays it's pretty much thought of as a guitar amp.

What are your experiences with playing through a bass amp? Good? Bad? Confess your sins!

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

For me they work for that super clean thing, that I never need anyway...

The difference in some bass and guitar amps is minimal at best...

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

Decades ago I used a Sears bass amp for gtr. It had a fuzz on it. It worked OK, I guess, for someone who didn't know any better!

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

Some bass amps work great for guitar, others not so good.

A lot of old tube bass amps work great as guitar amps - my dad used to play out of a big Traynor bass head/cab when he was my age.

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

I used to use a big Kustom bass combo w/ 15" speaker in conjunction with my amp. Really came in handy when I started tuning to B :D

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

My "good" amp is a Sunn model T. All tube 150 watts. I have seen old print ads featuring John Entwistle (Bassist fot The Who, r.i.p.). Guitar players like Leslie West, Foghat, The Stooges, and Probot have used them.

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

My favorite amp in the world is my Garnet Pro, which is a bass model. The difference between the bass, guitar and lead guitar models is extremely minimal. whatever the case, this thing makes some of the most righteous noise ever. Sadly, I almost never have occasion to use it, cause it's just too damn loud.

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

A lot of stoner and doom bands use older tube bass heads for guitar. Add a good distortion box and VROOOOOOOOMM!

That's true... the one I used didn't work in any way... except for cleans.

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

My first 'loud' rig was a squier strat, into a digitech RP100, into a cheap 1x15 30 watt bass amp.

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

i've read that Adam Jones of Tool uses a Marshall bass amp as 1 part of his rig.

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

I have played jazz thru a GK Microbass - NICE NICE NICE - I want one!

I have played thru the Mesa all tube bass head (model?) that they make (I play with someone who has one) and it sounded killer with a LP (w/ SD 59) going thru it.

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

My current amp is used by alot of Basses, though it is sold as a Guitar amp. So I can say I am using a bass amp...... I like it

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

I got some pretty heavy tones playing through an Ampeg V4B. B tuned of course...zupa heavy.

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

Ed King used to use some kind of big Ampeg head with their typical tall 8 speaker SVT lookin cabinet. Not sure if it was a bass rig, but it sure looked like one.

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

ive used a fender bass amp i dont remember which one. it was ok, nothing special, jsut kind of a flat clean tone.

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

I used a silverface bassman 50 head through the 2- 15 cabinet and it had good tone. Nice piano like low end.

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

a friend of mine uses a peavey bass amp as her guitar amp.. she says it works

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

Hilgen Basso Grande Head
Guild Thunder Bass Head
3 Traynor Bassmasters
1 Traynor Bassmate
2 Gibson Atlas Bass heads
Silvertone 1483 Bass head
Multivox EF86 Bass combo

I think you could say that I dig em. Funny as I never really thought about it!! lol

Re: Have you ever used a bass amp for guitar?

I've played through a modern solid state Fender Bassman. Obviously no good for distortion, but the clean sounds were nice, I thought.
