Have you ever used rung oil to finish a freshly stained guitar

Terrific nickname

I recently traded for a 60's Kay speed demon. Previously it had been painted all crazy, but when I got it it had been sanded to natural, and varnished poorly. I sanded in down, stained it a nice dark honey, but I got the clear coat all streaky. So I plan to sand the clear coat off,and I've been told about using tung oil. I want a matte finish with almost no shine just to keep the dark wood look, but I also want protection from scratches and whatnot. I could use some advice if the oil is the best option, and if so will it harden to a protective layer, and does it self level, best way to apply,or should I go another way. I've looked up so much stuff online, and most of it is so contradicting. Hopefully someone on here has tried it or achieved this affect somehow. Thanks in advance...and this is my first thread in this forum so I appreciate the add and look forward to being a productive member image.jpg

I've got all the clear coat off the top now,it looks like the manze got ahold of it. I'll restrain it tomorrow, but would really like to know about some oils. I read another thread on here about true oil, but it's a little too glossy sounding to me...help

i just used tried & true from stewmac, its boiled linseed oil. Its not shiny but it doesn't really protect against bumps and dings. It does give you the barely there look over stained wood with a little yellow. Just be sure stain is completely dry.

Thank you. I bought some frombys from lowes,I guess it's just a wiping varnish.i hoping for good results,it had descent enough reviews. After I had gotten it I got a little deeper into the reviews and its seems to be about my patience level. This is my first restore,I want it to be professional, but I don't want it to take 3years....but thank you for your reply. I was thinking about picking up some linseed oil for the fretboard, but I haven't decided. I might just use the tung oil,but I'm a little nervous about it. Not sure why.

It is not nice to make fun of Chinese people's accents.
