Have you owned or played an ibanez iceman?

I'm wondering what the body shape feels like and whether or not the guitar has a super thin shred neck or is more vintage inspired. By the look of most of them, seems like a shred machine.

I've never owned one, but I have to comment just to say that Paul Stanley should be forced to wear makeup permanently. Jesus.

Jolly is building one ; I'm sure he can tell you about it.

we agree completely on the matter.

What's with the tractor tire in that add?

Re: Have you owned or played an ibanez iceman?

I own an Iceman, and love it. I can answer your questions.
First, the body shape feels very comfortable--they're well balanced--both standing & sitting. They mold right into me. They aren't body or neck heavy.

As for the neck--it depends which year it is.
The current ones have the shredder type neck, but mine is a 79 I later picked up used--it has a chunky Gibson style neck--which I love (I don't find shredder necks comfortable)
Other years the neck may be different. I think some ones in between had thinner necks.
Some have bolt on necks, and some have set necks, and some of the recent ones are neck throughs.

So I can't give you one answer on the necks in general.

If you are able to play it in person--it's worth a look to see if you like the neck.
If you're buying it online--well it depends what year & model as to what sort of neck it is.

Re: Have you owned or played an ibanez iceman?

id like one with a chunkier neck if possible but i can play both fine.

i had a 1978 fender that had this huge neck, it was so comfortable in my hand!

Re: Have you owned or played an ibanez iceman?

I had an Iceman and it had a bolt-on neck. The neck was thin and the body was very light. That Iceman was made shredding in mind.

Re: Have you owned or played an ibanez iceman?

No and yes. It was over thirty years ago. The only detail that I clearly recall is that my teenaged self could not afford it.

Re: Have you owned or played an ibanez iceman?

I had a 79. It felt, standing, very much like a Les Paul.

Re: Have you owned or played an ibanez iceman?

Paul Gilbert uses one (and a reverse one called a Fireman), but with all of his resources, he probably has a neck all specced up for him.

Not so long ago, on this forum, to "Iceman" was a verb. To begin a contentious/teaser thread and rarely (or never) return to it to conclude the story.

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that the person asking about an Iceman is Astro?

Re: Have you owned or played an ibanez iceman?

The iceman is an obsession of mine, I've had several, built a couple, and I'm having a custom 7 string iceman built. To me they're the most comfortable guitars around, they always sound great no matter what you throw in them. I have my #1 , an IC400,with a 59n and a PGb, and sometimes I throw a C5 in the bridge. My hand built one has a Distortion in the bridge and is made of alder with a maple top so it's a little different than my #1. My custom 7 is going to be ash and have a maple top with some bare knuckles thrown in. Personally I would stay away from the newer ones, they're really only icemans(icemen?) in name alone

Re: Have you owned or played an ibanez iceman?

I didnt used to like the shape, but I like the Sam Totman model and the shape has grown on me..
