Have you owned or played an ibanez iceman?

Re: Have you owned or played an ibanez iceman?

my teenaged self could not afford it.
Nor could me teenage self--at first--until I saw a used one on sale after a summer job. Looking back it wasn't that expensive--but to me at the time it felt that way.

I had a 79. It felt, standing, very much like a Les Paul.
Well tthe neck on mine does--the Iceman has a more balanced feel to me than a a Les paul--although I love both.

Personally I would stay away from the newer ones, they're really only icemans(icemen?) in name alone
It all depends what you're after--but if it's that classic Iceman look & feel & sound--yeah--look for an older used one.

I know nothing of Iceman guitars, but that sure is a sweet tire.

:lmao:

Bass player in my band used to play a bolt-on Iceman bass. Looked cool, but that was about it. Not the greatest sounding instrument.

The better ones most definitely come off as Les Paul-ish.

The old ones have more Gibson like necks, my 90's era IC-500 had a slightly thinner neck with a very flat radius board. YOu might ask Ayrton what the MIK ones necks are like, I think he still has one.

I remember one from the early 80s that my friend owned that had a nice rounded neck but not too thick. I'm sure there have been all kinds of models created since then so I guess it depends.

Re: Have you owned or played an ibanez iceman?

I played a late 70's iceman about ten years ago.

It was easily the longest guitar i have ever played.

I also remember it as a les paul type guitar.

And i never got on with les pauls, so.............

You want all the stock parts to preserve the collector's value. You know you're just going to change them out anyway!

I didn't mean it that way, I meant.. stock? it's a special run guitar with house brand pickups?

Re: Have you owned or played an ibanez iceman?

I have Duncans in two guitars--but my Iceman is keeping the Super 80's it came with--they sound great.

I've had a couple MiK ones, the necks are thin but definitely not wizard thin. And te backs are rounded still, like a super thin C almost D shape. I love it, it's plenty fast for shredding and all that but still comfortable when you wrap your hand around it

This may come as a shock, but not everyone out there obsesses about changing pickups. Plus, some Ibanez pickups actually sound pretty good.

I guess I've had to many bad experiences with infinity pickups.

+1

They actually do a pretty good job of matching stock pups into their designs. I have a SAS36 and (of all things) an ART100 that sound simply fantastic, stock to the bones. I wouldn't change a thing about either one. And the V2 pickup in my old Roadstar is beyond incredible.

But it's not consistent. I have another ART100 that doesn't quite have that same special something that its virtual twin does. I think it's a delicate balance that is not always achieved.

Bottom line is that I try not to pre-judge any instrument until I've used it through my own rig at volume. You never know what you're gonna git.

I'm still after one. There's one for $550 on the local craiglist...
