Having g.a.s. like never before.

Re: Having g.a.s. like never before.

just an FYI...you can "lock" a mustangs trem so that it won't rock anymore.

i've have had a mustang itch for a very very long time but just never bought one due to the 7.25" neck radius...i may build a warmoth one though.

here's the full how to from jag-stang.com...

Locking Down The Tremolo

Tools/Parts Needed:

Philips Head screwdriver

Needle Nose pliers OR Stew Mac tremolo spring remover

2 Screws(or bolt) size: 6mm by 1.0 by 20mm

2 Washers size: 6mm

2 Nuts size: 6mm by 20mm

For some people who do not use the trem and would like more sustain and tuning stability this is a great mod. First remove the bridge plate (the plate that says Fender Dynamic Vibrato) just take out the screws that secure it into the body. Next with a pair of pliers (or a tremolo spring remover, available from Stewart-McDonald) remove the tremolo springs. Now take the tailpiece (the part that you thread the strings through) and their should be two cylindrical posts coming out of the bottom that were attached to the springs. Unscrew the two posts from the tailpeice. Next take the tailpeice to a hardware store or guitar shop and try to find two machine screws to fit the tailpeice's threads (the screws should be a little on the shorter side, if you get too large of a screw your tailpeice will be too far from the bridge plate, if you get them too small it will be too close).

Now that you have your screws find two washers and two nuts that fit them. Now take your bridge plate and put the screws up through the bottom, so that the threads go up through the holes. Now on each screw put a washer and a nut (remember the washer goes first, so it makes contact with the bridge plate). Put them on loose so that you can still turn the screw. Now with the tailpeice flip it around so that you don't have to put the strings in so they wrap around it. Now your strings should run straight through on the screws and tighten them from the bottom. Next, start to screw the tailpeice onto the screws, get a good amount of that screw into the tailpeice to make it stable. And the last step is to take the nuts and tighten them down onto the bridge plate. Finger tight is all it takes. Now your tremolo is locked down.

Re: Having g.a.s. like never before.

you have a point but it's not that bad, i find the trem to be worse of a problem and the damn tiny frets and 7.25" radius...i tried to figure out a way to make a 25.5" scale stang but it would look odd since everything would need to be moved back to deal with the scale so that was a no-go.

Imagine having a trem that does none of the cool stuff a Floyd or even a vintage Fender will, now make it so you can't adjust any tension, and make it so that it will ONLY float. Seriously, going from standard to drop D will throw it out of tune.

Oh yeah, add a bridge that pivots back and forth, as well. Fender Mustangs are total pieces of sh*t, from the bridge to the pickups to the controls to the short-scale neck.

thats exactly what kurt cobain said in an interview when they asked him about his mustang , he said the guy that created mustangs must be an idiot , and the guy that was doing the interview said : leo fender desinged it , and kurt said ohhh too bad im not getting a sponsored lol

the frets and radius is pretty bad, but they can be changed...the scale is still gonna be 24...they just feel like a toy ( I had one, and just had to sell it...)
