HB103B

Hey all - I swapped the regular ceramic magnet out of a duncan designed hb103b with a thick ceramic. How close is this getting me to an sh6b?

I also swapped the ceramic out of the neck with an alnico V. No idea what the neck pup is supposed to be a copy of... I was assuming a 59 or jazz. Could be its own thing I reckon.

Thanks!

Re: HB103B

You haven't given us a clue as to what neck pup you are starting with. As far as I'm aware, the HB 103 is only the bridge pup ("Distortion"), not a set like the HB 102 is.

Re: HB103B

I have the HB103 (set?) in a KE3 body and love it as-is. My favorite thrash metal guitar. The neck is very clear like a Jazz. I have 59n's in other guitars and they seem more phat.

But the HB103B seems perfect for my needs. And yes, if you gave it an over sized ceramic, it should be the "same" as a Duncan Distortion SH6/TB6.

Ahh, yes sorry.

It's the HB103N

It's a ~7.75k pickup so it don't think it is a copy of the sh6N. Stock it came with a standard ceramic. Could be the same wind as the hb102n or 101n. I dunno.

Re: HB103B

The only difference between the HB102 and HB103 sets is the magnet, which are A5 for the 102 and ceramic for the 103.

Re: HB103B

So, if you have the HN103n with an A5 mag I'd guess it to be very close to a Jazz (a great sounding neck pup).

Re: HB103B

Do Duncan Designed pickups have nickel-plated brass baseplates? I don't believe they do, but I remember reading that in this forum.

Re: HB103B

Yes they do have a nickle baseplate, but its nickle SILVER.. I have a hb 103 set, and have had another in a squier jagmaster. neck (with a 5 swap) is similar to a jazz, and bridge (with a5 swap) is similar to a jb. both a little fatter tho.. They look very much like a (slightly) cheaper version of their counterparts

I stuck an extra one i had lying around (a5 swapped) into my newly acquired mik squier 2 strat, and it sounds great for that application..
