HBE pedals

Just from trying out a bunch of pedals at local shops HBE seems to be one of the better companies out there, especially by price. What are your thoughts on them? I am completely in love with the Mimic delay and the Germacide frequency booster and their Wah just rocks. If only I had money.

Re: HBE pedals

HBE is making the best pedals out there, IMO. I own several:

Two UFO fuzz octaves
Two Germania treble boosters, both original and switchable versions
Medicine Bawl wah
Big D distortion
Germacide frequency booster

I would take a UFO to a desert island. Don't hesitate on the Germacide, it's been discontinued. Could be worth $$$ someday?

Re: HBE pedals

One of the best FX pedal companies out there right now. The only thing I wish they'd do different is to make bigger boxes, so the switch isn't so close to the knobs. Great pedals, but just like Z Vexx, they use those small aluminum enclosures, and put the jacks on the sides. I like it more when companies use their own boxes with the jacks on the back and more space between the switch and knobs. Just a minor gripe. It wouldn't stop me from buying any HBE or Z Vexx stuff though.

Re: HBE pedals

The Germacide has been discontinued??? I love that pedal. Good thing the local dealer sells high end pedals very very slowly. Thats really a shame though, its one of my favorites. The Medicine Bawl into the Germacide is the coolest tone ever. With the frequency set to the bassier settings the wah got this huge low end effect that was gritty and totally addictive.

Re: HBE pedals

I haven't tried the Germacide with my Medicine Bawl because they are installed on different pedalboards. I'll have to link one board to the other sometime to check it out. I use a Fulltone Clyde on the main board, where the Germacide is, and those two together get along well too.

All the details of my boards are available here:

Re: HBE pedals

i've owned several HBE boxes and played through a few more. One of my very favorite high-end pedal makers. Great great stuff, no complaints. Joel's pedals ended up not being quite what I was looking for, but that's my problem not the pedals'!

Try and buy, you will probably love them. If your dealer still has a Germacide, and you liked it, you should grab it. They are discontinued AFAIK. The Germanium boxes (both models) are KILLER! And not discontinued.
