what headphones do u use? i know it might not be.."gear" as its not directly instrument related.. but i want some good phones.

i am planning to get studio headphones, for listening and monitoring home recording stuff. what BRANDS are GOOOOD for studio headphones? i know mackie and behringer are good for the studio monitors and mixers?, but headphones? any good recommendations?

my budget would be..around $150 (cheaper woudl be GOOD).. which i think should be more than enough..... (student kid trying to get good stuff )

(i thought of audio technica, but my friend has a pair of audio technica.. and as a human being, or a teen some would say, i want better things )

any recommendations?? thanks LOADZ

Re: headphones

For open-ear, go with the Grado SR-125
open ear = you can hear the world around you and the world can hear what's on the cans

For closed-ear, go with the Sony MDR-7506
closed ear = you can't hear the world, and they'll be hard-pressed to hear what's on the cans

Re: headphones

Audio Technica ATHM40fs or Sony MDRV700DJ

i don't own either, but used both. the audio technicas i listed would be a good investment at $150 MSRP. or $100 here. the sonys are pretty bass heavy, though i still reccomend them :)

+1

The Sony MDR-7506 is like the SM57 of headphones.

Re: headphones

Ditto on the Sony 7506, although AT and Sennheiser stuff is generally nice, too. You can find the Sony and comparable alternatives in the $100 bracket from several vendors.

Re: headphones

yeah i love those sony's but i blew my last ones out and i cant find em anymore

Re: headphones

There are some good ones from Grado, Sennheiser, and AKG at decent prices.

Sounds like the Sony ones are a studio standard, but the above are also good options for the money.

I don't have studio headphones, but I use a nice pair of Sennheiser 600 series audiophile ones just for general listening.

+2, they do the job for me. Around 99 bucks at GC, too.

Re: headphones

+1 more for the Sony 7506's. They run about $100 and the best pair of headphones that I've ever owned. Great sound, very comfortable. They even come with a cool carrying pouch!
