headstock decal + cap value

hey !
I have two questions
1.what capacitor values were used on vintage strats(pre -cbs)
2.if I get a headstock decal,do I need to put a coat of lacquer on it? I heard that pre-cbs strats had no lacquer on top of the decal,is that true?

Thanks!

Re: headstock decal + cap value

I thought it was a .1 Ceramic
2. Can do either. Depends on whether you want it to chip off eventually

Re: headstock decal + cap value

Two necks....
left = nitro then decal added and then tinted with amber stain.
Right - vintage tint nitro with waterslide clearcoated over

Re: headstock decal + cap value

50's strat would have been a .1 PIO until about 62 then it changed to a orange disc of the same value. Not until the late 60's did .05 get used. Decal should be over the laquer.

that really helped out!
couldn't find a photo like that anywhere
but is it vintage correct?

Re: headstock decal + cap value

any more opinions on the cap value?

Well you asked for what was used I gave you what was used its not so much an opinion as a factual statement using anything else would not be vintage correct like you asked for.

But if you want an opinion ill give you this one. The type of cap doesnt matter only the rating. My preference on vintage single coils is .1 and I just buy a 39 cent ceramic disc from radio shack.

Re: headstock decal + cap value

I always use a .47 microfarad decal on my guitars.
