Headstock paint question

This may seem like a stupid question, but I'm about to start building a guitar from Warmoth parts, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on painting the headstock. I want to go basic black, but I'm afraid of screwing something up...any suggestions? I've assembled guitars before, but never with a completely unfinished neck.

Just remember to use grain filler and then sand nice and smooth before spraying black. Use a nice deep satin or matt black which is better for decals and subsequent lacquer finishing.
