Heavily mod'ed Jackson DKMG

Snoogles

Cranky-dologist
just throwing this out there to see if there's any interest

this guitar started life as a regular, trans-black DKMG from the early 2000s. bought it used off the ebay.
i had the floyd rose from the mid 80s, put that on.
i hated the pickups (passive EMGs), switched those out
started picking at a chip in the finish and it peeled right off. so i went to town on the whole thing.
sanded down to the wood. stained the top and did about 15 coats of tru-oil.
then i sanded off the paint on the headstock, glued on a flame veneer. stained and tru-oiled that, and was planning to spray a few coats of glossy lacquer (the stewmac colortone rattle can stuff)

I'm selling it because i think i'm just getitng too old for something this pointy/flamey/floydy.

pickups: scream'in demon-bridge, full shred-neck
bridge: Original Floyd Rose base plate from the mid 80s, Graphtech String Saver saddles, Floyd Upgrades "L" shaped Big Block

both pickups are wired to split with 2 volume controls, and the tone control is a concentric pot for both pickups.

i have the cavity cover in a drawer somewhere, so that would be put on. and i made a truss rod cover out of flame maple veneer to match the headstock. and i probably have a trem cavity cover too

I would sell the whole guitar, or just the body and neck. also have a hard shell Gator case

please ask any questions about this guitar

what do you mean?
i don't really have any use for a floyd'ed guitar.
i don't really play metal, or shred.

Thats an awesome guitar, you can use that for any genre at all, whats holding you back? Stereotypes? Stick a pair of PAFs in it and use it for Yer Blues or whatever - I just dont think you'll get the money its worth selling it.

Re: Heavily mod'ed Jackson DKMG

I agree with Snoogles. Why use a Metal Shredstick for a classic genre? Number one, it would look stupid as hell, and number two, see number one.

Re: Heavily mod'ed Jackson DKMG

Ohhhhhhh that's right. I remember your refinishing thread on this. Very very nice.

Re: Heavily mod'ed Jackson DKMG

since people are asking, i really don't know what this is worth, other than the sum of its parts.

brand new, retail prices:
screaming demon - $95
full shred - 80
string saver saddles - 80
floyd upgrades brass block - 40
"vintage" floyd rose base plate - ??

i checked completed listings on ebay for jackson dkmg necks, and they ranged from $140 to $200, without any of the hardware. just the bare neck

dkmg bodies ranged from $70 - 100 without the hardware

obviously i cant expect to get the sum of the brand new, retail prices for this guitar

i would throw in the case if someone were to buy the whole guitar

I'd consider keeping the body and neck together. That neck might be harder to sell w/o the matching body.

Look stupid to who? Seems a silly attitude to me.

Re: Heavily mod'ed Jackson DKMG

how's the fret-wear? Any playability issues with the neck or fret buzz or anything?

neck relief is about .5mm at the 8th fret (when the string is fretted at the first and 24th fret). action is 1.5mm at the 12th fret.
no fret buzz anywhere. no choaking out on bends. frets are smooth and level, no dents or worn spots

i've already received a couple offers that were well below what i would want to get for this thing. and i'm now wondering if its not worth what i would like to get

That was why I was thinking you would be better off keeping it. Its a gorgeous axe man. :)

Re: Heavily mod'ed Jackson DKMG

I think your best bet is to post what your asking price is and then go from there.

ok, you might laugh at me but i was thinking $550

but now i would like to take care of this high-E buzzing issue i just found last night before i sell it.

i might also be open to a trade for a strat or telecaster
