Heavy distortion pedal

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a pedal that can get me good metal distortion. Something really heavy that can handle Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer tones. I've tried a few that didn't quite cut it. I felt the Boss Turbo Distortion and Metal Zone were too harsh. The Tech 21 GT2 sounded good but was quite noisy. Some of the pedals I've been looking at but haven't tried are the Boss Mega Distortion, Digitech Hot Rod Distortion and Ibanez Smash Box. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Re: Heavy distortion pedal

I love my boss ds-1. You may not think it can get metal tones but, if you have the eq on your amp set right and the tone knob (on the pedal) set right you can get some awesome metal tones. I would take a look at the Robert Keeley moded ds-1 and the keeley metal zone. [/$0.02]

Re: Heavy distortion pedal

I tried the Digitech Hot Rod in the store and that came pretty close to those styles. It also has a knob to select different tones that was pretty good too. Try it out and see how you like it...

i think ur best bet would be to actually go to a guitar store, either bring ur guitar or find a guitar and amp that are the same or similar, and try out all the pedals they have. this always helps me find what i need.

A DS-1 boosted by a Tube Screamer. Very cool. :)

hmmm... I have both of those but never thought to try that... I'm gonna try that as soon as I get home!

Re: Heavy distortion pedal

rite rite, try the guitar store stuff, But I would put my suggestion on an Ibanez Smashbox. It's what I use for all of my distortion because my amp has no eq settings on the gain channel. Great for metal, it would handle the metallica and megadeth nicely.

Re: Heavy distortion pedal

You could try the new Digitech lineup - I tried the bad monkey, hot head, death metal. All have decent sounds (not neccessaraly original) and are extreamly quiet even when cascaded.

Re: Heavy distortion pedal

Dig deeper into your wallet, and get a Radial Tonebone Hotbritish.....used of course.
The Banzai Fireball II and T. Rex Dr. Swamp are also killer. That Brotech Fatpipe looks like it would be cool too, although I've never heard one.

Re: Heavy distortion pedal

Seems like you're asking a little much if that's really what you think of it...
I guess I can understand not tryin' to lose money on a pedal, but it's not really that bad...
