Hi

I am new to the forum. I am also new to electric guitars. Been collecting for a year. But I am not new to forums and boards since I also collect other stuff like wines etc. I find great satisfaction in souping up cheap guitars. Changing the pickups, strap locks, tuners, and stuff. So I collect electric guitars and change the stuff that can be changed - I do this because I enjoy doing it. (often I get stares from Luthiers whom I go to for major repairs and they ask me as to why I do it)

I joined this forum to further my knowledge on pickups and now it seems this board is a treasure trove of everything in an electric guitar that I am curious about.

I've been playing since I was 11 years old (I'm 47) however, just recently switched to electric guitar. I've had several years of classical guitar training ( - spanish guitar). I read notes but have not been doing so for a long time now. So my spot reading is very very rusty. I get together every weekend with some friends of mine and we jam and play Hard Rock and Classic Rock.

My questions are
1.
A friend gave me a used Bill Lawrence L-500 lead without screws and spring as well as mounting ring.

Anyone has spares that I could buy off? Or point me to where I can acquire them?

2.
So I bought a L-500 Rhythm off ebay so I am going to put them into an Ibanez GAX 70 to replace the PSND pups.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram that you can spare?
Any feed back on these pups? Does Anybody know the specs like output?

3.
That same friend gave me a Seymour Duncan Humbucker with a sticker at the back "JBJ-1. I measure its output using a friends meter before he left for out of state, and it measured 17.1 Ohms (So I assume this is for the bridge) so I managed to buy a Seymour Duncan Full Shred for the neck.

My question is
Does anyone know what type of Seymour Duncan humbucker is this for the bridge?

I plan to put these in an almost brand new Epiphone Les Paul Special II. Is that a good idea?

4.
Does anyone know anything about Schaller pickups?

Thanks
C

Re: Hello

I can answer question #3: It's a JB wound by the custom shop's MJ, but while she was making regular production pickups. It's a good deal hotter than a regular JB, so it could be that it was a custom shop order to begin with and not a production pickup. If it's the former, it's aged a bit so it should sound pretty killer. If it's the latter, it was done by the custom shop, and should sound really killer. So you're pretty much set with the bridge pickup there.

I have a les paul special II as well, while the pickups should sound nice in it, they're probably going to be worth more than the guitar itself. So, if you end up selling it, keep the pickups. But it's hard to say what pickups are going to sound good in it, not too many people swap pickups in plywood guitars so you're probably breaking new ground here.

Also, welcome to the forum!

Re: Hello

Welcome. You've come to the right place. I'm all about buying import guitars (especially used ones), upgrading the PU's, and makin them sound great. One of life's little pleasures.

I like Schaller PU's. Well-made, nice tones, not sure of the models, but I've picked up used ones on eBay in the $20 to $25 range. Hard to go wrong with that. Check them on a multi-meter, as sometimes the neck PU will be hotter than the bridge when you get a pair (must be some German thing).

Re: Hello

welcome! the full shred should be a good match for the epi les paul neck, not sure about the bridge pickup tho.

Thank you everyone!!

Super rad...I managed to acquire a Seymour Duncan SH-14 Custom 5...will that go better for the bridge of the epi les paul than the JBJ?

I also have a Schaller PU. Its probably a neck PU-the multi meter reads 6.1
What do you think? I do not have any experience at all. I can send you a photo soon if you like to see it? What PUs are they compatible with? And I agree with you...one of life's little pleasures!!!

A site that most of us have used at one time or another for parts.

A great selection of wiring diagrams.

Thanks Jimijames
Do you think the Custom JBJ should sound better in an HSS configuration or an H-H configuration? Because I also have another used guitar that says Jay Turser on the head but the body is different and its has an HSS configuration. This is another project. Also I have a Dean EVO XM (H-H configuration) that I can change the Bridge Humbucker to the Custom JBJ.

Ah I love projects...
