Help before i break something!

hey guys im gonna finaly play around with the inereds of my jackson and i need help so i can be set up right.. i wanna change the pups out but i cant decide on what to get... i was looking at a super distortion / breed neck or a JB / jazz combo but i cant decide outa the two.. .what do you guys think? ... also i wanna set it up to have a push pull tone knob for a coil split... i dont know what i have to buy though... like do i need a new volume knob also... like a 500k? and i'm asuming i need a 500k push pull for the tone right?... ive never played around inside a guitar so i need to know what i need and what i need to do... i watched the SD videos on how to change pups but it only helps so far... also i was wondering how much work it would take to put in a mini switch for a on off kill switch for the whole guitar... like i said i have no experiance with guitar electronics but im good with my hands and i at least have a slight idea of what to do... so please help me.... it's not only just for my jackson but also so i will know what im doing later on so i can play with other stuff.... thanks

One thing at the time , you need to tell us what kind of sound you're after , what are the body and neck woods , so we can help for pickups .
I don't know much about electronics .

my body is alder and my neck is rosewood im looking for some nice clean clear tones from the neck and strong distortion with some bite from the bridge.. and im hoping with that if i have the switch in the middle it will be a wormer melower distortion... those are the sound roughly that im looking for... im more woried about everything i need and how to do it.....thanks

SH2 Jazz neck and SH4 ( or TB4 depending on your style of bridge ) JB bridge then , Seymour's favorit combo , it would be a safe way to start with pickup testing .

That would work! Especially with a Push/Pull pot splitting the pickups.

Hey Openj

Can you solder...I mean with skill and confidence?

There are lots of good books with pics and stuff on doing this type of thing.

I'd start by doing a fair amount of reading or visit a local guitar tech and get some information/suggestions.

I would reccomend the JB and the 59, i just got them and they sound really nice. they also split really nice( i have them split with a singe coil ). I just started messing around with wiring and soldering, here's my thoughts for you. Don't go thinking you need to make a 100 changes just cause you got the guitar opened up. Opening up the guitar isn't that hard to do, and its gets quicker each time you do it. I would wire in the new pickups similar to the way the old ones were first, just to see if your comfortable, plus less things that could go wrong that you will have to figure out.

thanks for the suggestions i'll work on them i'm looking around for techs... dosent seem to be too many near here... theres maybe at the most 3 or 4 places within about 20 mins of here but i'll try... also i have some soldering skills though i cant say how "perfect" i am at it but diving into new things i take it slow and careful... from what i've heard im gonna start with just changing the pups first then i'll come back and let you guys know how it went... i think im gonna go with the jb / jazz set .... sounds good from suggestions.... last night i played a few guitars at the store and i played one with SD invaders in it and im sorry to say i did not like the sounds out of it at all ..... so that might help a little on the tones im looking for...anyways i'll be back with my results thanks
