Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!
Well, I am NEVER negative on the Framus or the Marshalls I have.
I am ECSTATIC.
Here's some lame things to thing about...
1. Bogner is a cool brand, but it also sounds good. I will admit the name influences me, I have come to love his (Mr. Bogner himself) recipe.
2. I have come to realize that from a production standpoint certain tones are what nail it for people. Manley, Universal Audio, etc etc are not just chosen for superior sound. There are MANY great tones in the world, but some are recognizable and for that reason alone, instantly pleasing. Marshalls have this quality, as do Bogners. Actually, Duncans have this. I changed to all Duncans recently as I got hired for a good amount of recording, and I actually found the tone just sat in the mix well (APH, PG's, 59's). Framus... more modern and unique. Hey, Dual Rec's are modern and instantly recognized, but NOT my bag per se.
3. I cannot justify the Bogner price. I agree with Joneser, I can get the 101B MUCH cheaper, and have come close to buying one many times. However, I did feel the open feel of the Classic sat well with me as far as feel. 3 grand, possibly selling 2 - 3 amps that I LOVE (and yes, I LOVE THE FRAMUS) hmmmmmmm tough.
As far as the Framus goes, I think it beats the Ecstasy for high gain and mean crunch. But the Ecstasy has that gorgeous open feel, less of that "modern" compression and box-iness (hey, it's a small issue, not like the 101B sucks)
4. I have always just wanted a Bogner, just to be in that realm for a while. when you are a fan of something, you got to be in the inner circle, no?
5. I still wonder if the Shiva is a better, more open tone.
6. Ah, yes, the 73 Marshall - being handwired and setup by Victor before he really took off with Mojave - I must say, has a God like tone. It is THE goto sound in the studio. It also has "cool" factor, no? It really does sound amazing, and run it thru a Hot Plate and try an old fuzz or fulltone and lookout. Aftr you lay it, you add any modern amp and you get amazing tones! So for that shallow reason alone I probably have to keep it.
Hey, I don't want another pricey amp, but the Bogner might have the IT tone lurking in it.
I always love hearing the takes of people in here. Actually Gearjoneser and Boogie Bill have talked me out of dumb moves MANY times, only to have amazing opportunities come weeks later. I owe them!
