Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

I wanted to say - I am ecstatically pleased with my current amp rigs -

Classic Marshalls, my Framus

at most my plan was to add a Fender Deluxe Reverb or Super Reverb

but...

The GC in Sherman Oaks has a Bogner Ecstasy Classic for $3300 ...

Played it for a while and I am in LOVE! It sounds like a record only right in front of you.

Should I liquidate a couple of items and get it??? Or should I let my world stay happy as it is in it's current state?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm DILEMMAs

PS - I have more important things than Bogners to spend on in my life.

Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

mmmmmmmm Bogner :32:

Well, I wouldn't sell my '73 Marshall....how attached to the Framus are ya' ? Some of your recent threads lead me to believe you aren't too attached :D

But GC SUX....can you deal with them or maybe sell the Framus & grab a used Ecstasy somewhere else ?

Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

MMMM Bogner well hmm Iv never played a Framus but I know Bogners are nice it depends which would u be happier with?

Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

Try and snipe a 101B for around $2300 if you can. I'll never understand why the Classic is more money? They stripped off some of the vital switches that the 101B has, I think. Once you get used to those switches, you'd never want to be without them.

Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

I think the beauty of having the Bogner is, you'll get those gorgeous classic Marshall sounds without having to tote your classic Marshall around.

Granted, the Bogner is also something you'd rather not see get f*cked up...but come on, it's no '73 Marshall :D

***I guess I'm assuming you LOVE that Marshall & it's original...........***

Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

That is a friggin nice amp bro. I plan to pick up a 101b in the near future. I was sold on the ecstasy after hearing gearjonser play through his. It sounds very full on stage and I like the options.

Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

Well, I am NEVER negative on the Framus or the Marshalls I have.

I am ECSTATIC.

Here's some lame things to thing about...

1. Bogner is a cool brand, but it also sounds good. I will admit the name influences me, I have come to love his (Mr. Bogner himself) recipe.

2. I have come to realize that from a production standpoint certain tones are what nail it for people. Manley, Universal Audio, etc etc are not just chosen for superior sound. There are MANY great tones in the world, but some are recognizable and for that reason alone, instantly pleasing. Marshalls have this quality, as do Bogners. Actually, Duncans have this. I changed to all Duncans recently as I got hired for a good amount of recording, and I actually found the tone just sat in the mix well (APH, PG's, 59's). Framus... more modern and unique. Hey, Dual Rec's are modern and instantly recognized, but NOT my bag per se.

3. I cannot justify the Bogner price. I agree with Joneser, I can get the 101B MUCH cheaper, and have come close to buying one many times. However, I did feel the open feel of the Classic sat well with me as far as feel. 3 grand, possibly selling 2 - 3 amps that I LOVE (and yes, I LOVE THE FRAMUS) hmmmmmmm tough.

As far as the Framus goes, I think it beats the Ecstasy for high gain and mean crunch. But the Ecstasy has that gorgeous open feel, less of that "modern" compression and box-iness (hey, it's a small issue, not like the 101B sucks)

4. I have always just wanted a Bogner, just to be in that realm for a while. when you are a fan of something, you got to be in the inner circle, no?

5. I still wonder if the Shiva is a better, more open tone.

6. Ah, yes, the 73 Marshall - being handwired and setup by Victor before he really took off with Mojave - I must say, has a God like tone. It is THE goto sound in the studio. It also has "cool" factor, no? It really does sound amazing, and run it thru a Hot Plate and try an old fuzz or fulltone and lookout. Aftr you lay it, you add any modern amp and you get amazing tones! So for that shallow reason alone I probably have to keep it.

Hey, I don't want another pricey amp, but the Bogner might have the IT tone lurking in it.

I always love hearing the takes of people in here. Actually Gearjoneser and Boogie Bill have talked me out of dumb moves MANY times, only to have amazing opportunities come weeks later. I owe them!

Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

The thing about the 101B is that is has more tone shaping options than the Classic, meaning you can flick a switch or two and it becomes more organic and open, or more tight and modern. The compression allows it to sound more cranked at reasonable levels too. If you want it to sound more open, there's things you can do, like raise the master, lower the gain, and assign one of the presence knobs to the channel that needs more open-ness, and turn it up. I'm not trying to feed your gas, but it's an amp with the flexibility of a mixing board. It's the only amp I've ever been 100% happy with.

Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

It's a Framus Dragon

The other Marshall I am considering selling is my 6100.

I kinda have a JCM800 2203 lying around, but I do not know if I can say it's mine to sell.

Only you could make that remark as you feed my GAS

So is the Bogner just THE amp. THE tone, live and in the studio.

Everytime I play one I start to think this is an engineer's dream.

hmm and is it Ecstasy over the Shiva or Shiva over the Ecstasy?

Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

If I didn't have the Ecstasy, I'd be perfectly happy owning a Shiva EL-34 Reverb head. They both have a great tone, but the Shiva is like a GREAT sounding 2 channel Marshall. The Ecstasy is the entire history of Marshall in one box.

I might go over to GC Sherman Oaks and run that Classic through it's paces, so I know the exact differences between that one and mine. Right now, I'm just going on memory from playing a Classic for a couple minutes, BEFORE I owned the 101B. I've had my amp for 5 years now, so I'll easily be able to tell the difference when I play the Classic.

Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

O" From what i heard and read, there's really not that much difference between Bogner and classic Marshall (sound wise)I believe the Bog. was desinged after the old marshall plexis. I.M.O,I wouldnt spend that much money unless i thought i was going to get a totally new sound.Fender on the other hand will give you a different " tone" then what you have. Its up to you really , just my 2 cents!

Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

HERE's AN UPDATE:

Took the wife down to check out the Ecstasy today...

Sidenote: This is the girl that told me she hates the Super Reverbs I have wanted, doesn't like me thru Fenders, hated the TSL, Soldanos, Krank - hates most Mesas (talked me into the Mark IIB, talked me out of the Mark IIc+ - she preferred the IIb punch), MADE me buy the 6100 and my 73 Marshall, likes the Framus, likes VHT, LOVES every DUNCAN I have ever owned.

That tells you her ear.

After playing it for 1/2 an hour I was ready to sell the Framus Dragon (EDIT: It's actually a better METAL amp), the Marshall 6100, AND MY 73 HANDWIRED MARSHALL PLEXI. Though she still didn't quite agree with the 73, she pretty much agreed with all the rest.

So, I play an amazing Plexi already, and I feel the XTC does that and THEN SOME. I quite like the clean as well. I have never spent this much on an amp and everything I have ever owned I got for a BARGAIN.

I have never been this in love... UUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH what to do?

Well, first, don't tell your wife you have never been that in love. You'll be in the doghouse real fast. :D

Second, keep the '73. It's been your "go to" for how long? And if she's iffy on you selling it, don't even think about it. It's pretty much her amp with the way she's thinkin'. I have a guitar like that. The wife won't ever let me get rid of it.

I personally can't justify spending that much on an amp. I'll still sound like me through a $3000 amp or a $1500 amp or a $800 amp. For me, the raw Marshall tone works best and the ones I like are cheap right now so that's good for me.

Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

Olin, did you put the amp on layaway? If not, I hate to bring you bad news, but I was just at that store and the Bogner is gone. It sold in just a few days.

Re: Help - Decision Time... Gas!!!!

CRAP!

Yeah, I was about to put it on lay away.

Oh well. I really want one but it was a long discussion. These days I don't gig much. The lady thinks I should do it, my friends say spend MUCH less money and improve my studio.

Meanwhile, I keep getting higher and higher offers on my Marshalls. I don't know if the Bogner would be an investment. I don't know if I could take it out of the house. I am suddenly sold on the XTC, but god - $3 - 4k for an amp ugggggggggggggh - considering where I am at right now - it just feels wrong, but it SOUNDS soooo good.
