Help : Finish using wood dyes

Hello,

i'm going to paint a flamed maple top and i'm looking for help. Does anyone know how to have 3 different colours like in this flamed maple by PRS ? This fingerboard has black, green and pink / purple stripes.

Re: Help : Finish using wood dyes

Stain is done using dye.

Usually with that sort of finish you'd do one colour (black first with this one) then sand it back. This one could well have the green done next as a wood stain. The black gets sanded back aggressively so it only stays in small sections. The green then is sanded back slightly so small bits only are back to wood. Then clear finish in over the top.

Thank you for the answer ! The process seems to be applying black sand it back then do the same with green and purple. Is it right ?

I would guess no purple.

That would be the black but lighter intensity.
