Help fitting a JB Junior into a Squier Mustang

Hi Guys I'm new and looking for a little help.

I have a Squier Mustang and am fitting a Seymour Duncan JB Junior in the bridge. I'm confident with my soldering ability having changed Jacks and other bits but never a pickup. I would like to do this myself but have no idea about the location of the wiring. The original pickup had three wires (black red and white) going to the switch (see pictures below). I'm certain the red and white wires from the Seymour are soldered and taped off but I have no idea where the green black and bare wires connect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

For anyone who may have been struggling like I have been for 2 days to find an answer, the picture below looks correct. I will try it out and confirm this works.

Welcome to the forum.

How do you expect the three-way switch for the JB to work once modification is complete?

For most coil permutations, it is desirable to keep the green and bare wires separate. The bare must always be grounded. The green conductor, at times, may be functioning as the output for the pickup.

EDIT - Before you cut any cables, trim any insulation or solder anything, offer up the JB Junior pickup into the routed cavity. Is it deep enough to give the necessary range of height adjustment for the pickup AND to accommodate all of the cables that need to pass beneath?

Hi there Funkfingers ,

Everything seems to fit well and I have the pick up in place just not connected. I have had to turn the pickup upside down as the wiring for the JB is on the opposite side to the original. I have read that the bare needs to be grounded, im just trying to work out where i would need to solder it to ground it:eek1:.

Re: Help fitting a JB Junior into a Squier Mustang

Look at the switch for the neck position pickup. Observe where the white, red and bare wires are connected to that slider switch.

For the bridge position pickup slider switch,
SD black = Squier white,
SD green = Squier red.
SD bare wire goes to the same place as the Squier one did. Make certain that it cannot short across any of the switch contacts.

The Mustang switching convention is that both slider switches pushed to the same side of the centre off position should be electrically in phase. If they are not, the black and green conductors of the bridge pickup will have to be desoldered and connected up in the reverse order.

Thank you so, so much. I really wanted to be able to do this myself. You are awesome and :yourock:
