i love my metal zone pretty versatile kind of a tweaker its definately modable
the keeley mod should be perfect

Get a marshall jackhammer O/D pedal.
It dont need to be modded to get perfect tone.

The marshall jackhammer is a cool little unit, you can get lots of sounds out of it and it has a OD/Distortion switch. The filter knobs are trickey but you can get everything from scooped Mesa Metal sounds to Creamy overdrive.
I quite like mine

You're in luck! I have recently constructed a DIY distortion project that I think is perfect for you:

1) Buy a Danelectro Honeytone amp
2) plug your guitar into the amp
3) Crank the amp
4) Proceed to take a crap on the Honeytone amp
5) Now, place the honeytone inside of a 5 foot long barrel of PVC piping.
6) Place a condeser mic at the opposite end (or better yet, a computer microphone)
7) tape the mic and honeytone amp down and seal off the ends of the pipe. maybe add a random sock two thirds of the way towards the microphone (make sure its unwashed)
8) buy a 1/4 inch converter for the end of the mic and plug that into your main amp.

...and no solder is necessary! Best of all, you can paint the big mamaluke seafoam green!

EDIT: you may omit step 4 if you're looking for only an overdrive.
