HELP! In the middle of a pickup swap and ran into a problem!

I ordered some Seymour Duncan Saturday Night Specials for my 2016 Gibson SG. This is my first Gibson guitar, so I had no idea that they're now currently using the "quick connect" system :smack:

I have everything in front of me RIGHT NOW, and really don't want to have to go through the hassle of either replacing the whole system or order a quick connect converter kit from Gibson.

So, can I simply cut the wires out from the quick connection plug and solder in the new wires from the Saturday Night Specials, then plug it in like normal?

Are the specials 4 conductor? Were the Gibson 4 conductor? Color codes are different if so. If everything is 2 conductor you can cut the old pickups off the connectors and wire the new ones in, just get the ground and hot wires correct. Leave enough on the connectors to work with and strip back.

Well that's part of what's confusing me. The SD SNS pickups came with the extra red and white wires for coil splitting, etc. But I wasn't going to do any of that, so I was going to solder them together and tape them off.

But on the Gibson quick connection, it has the same identical wires and they're ALL plugged into the little slots. But this guitar isn't set up for push/pull.

Let me post pics...

Here's the SNS wires, and there's what's already inside the Gibson (everything is stock).

If there's no splits then the PC board is just handling bridging the pickup series wires together. All you need is the color conversion from Duncan to Gibson to wire your SNS to the quick connects.

Re: HELP! In the middle of a pickup swap and ran into a problem!

Sounds good, now to find the color coding from Gibson.

So the best bet is to cut the wires with enough left to twist the new pickup wires to it and then solder them together, right?

Leave enough in case you have to do it more than once. Hahaha

Re: HELP! In the middle of a pickup swap and ran into a problem!

Thanks for that color code chart! It's exactly what I needed!

Just wanted to update you guys to let you know that everything went great. I was able to cut the stock Gibson pups from the quick connect, leaving some extra wire to it, and use the color codes to solder the wires from the SNS to the quick connect wires. So everything went smoothly, pickups are working, and now I get to test out how they sound through my rig after work today [emoji2]
