Help installing JB.

Hello, I have a Fender Jag-stang, and just recieved my JB.

I'm not sure what to do.

I took out the old humbucker, but I don't know what to solder now.

Welcome to the Forum!

If you still have the stock single in the neck, solder the bare wire to ground, black to ground, and green to the switch. You will then solder the red and white wires together and tape them off. This will give you normal series humbucking operation and should be in phase with the single at the neck.

Alright, I'll try that.

Thanks a lot.

Ok, which post on the switch do I solder the green wire too, and what do I ground the bare and black wires too.

The post you wire the green to is the one that the old pickup was attached to. You can ground the black and bare to the back of the volume pot.

Ok, so I solder the green wire to where the original one was, solder the bare/blac wires to the voume pot, and solder the red/white wires together?

Yep, the green to switch, the bare and black to the back of the volume pot and the red and white together and taped off. You're set.

Make sure your solder joints are nice and shiny, otherwise you might lose sound quality.

Re: Help installing JB.

I've got a similar question!

I'm installing a JB in a Les Paul and I hooked everything up as described in earlier posts (I had a JB installed by a guitar tech in another LP I own so I copied his work). I HAVE NOT tried it yet (my guitar isn't strung up yet). My question is this though: The Duncan wiring diagram shows the green & bare being grounded to the back of the vol. pot (ground) and the black being soldered to the vol. pot post (hot). How come?

Matt

As always. any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

Re: Help installing JB.

Now this is just a guess, but I think the reason he said to use the green as the hot wire was because he was making sure it would be in correct phase with the other pickup being used. Otherwise, use the black wire. Again, thats just a guess, could be way off.

So i should try just the black and take the green off and ground the green?

Nope you got it. On the nose even!

SD pickups are out of phase with Fender (and I beleive) Epi pickups.

As far as no sound, check all your solder joints. Make sure they are all making good contact and look shiny, otherwise, you might not get good sound quality.

I'm sure you have a simple problem, but without looking at your guitar, I can't say. Are you getting static, or not even that?

I'm fairly certain its absolutely nothing.

Pfft, this has been a bad experience.

Are you getting any sound from your neck pickup?

Yes, the neck pickup always had sound.

Anyway, I resoldered it, and, now it works, just the volume is low.

I can't even hear it unless the volume knob is all the way up, yet the neck pickup is normal.
