I need a delay pedal. I don't need a ton of options, but tap tempo is nice. Typically, on my POD I just used digital delay.

The L6 ToneCore EchoPark sounds interesting, but I have not tried one. If you have, how does it do with a quality tube amp? The L6 videoclip demo sounds cool, although I would not use most of the features (and why I don't want the DL4).

Boss delays get decent ratings, but there are several models. A teenager at church uses the Gigadelay, but I've never tried it. What about the other models?

Another guy I know USED to use the Guyatone delay. But now he has the Gigadelay.

I need to give the POD another go at Franklin, but I have not had a chance. The first go 'round was not satisfactory, but that might be due to other factors.

Feel free to mention others...but keep in mind I am not interested in the best $500 pedal. Be reasonable.

Oh, yes. It'll only be stomped on in church.

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

I forgot to mention:

The local music store is having a 20% off Labor Day sale. And they already guarantee the lowest price (price-matching with catalog/internet sales).

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

I think one of the Boss DDs or the Line 6 Echo Park would be your best bet. Another pedal to look into is the Ibanez tone lock delay.

I REALLY think you should just turn off the POD's amp modeling section and use the delay (and all the other effects) in there.

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

I did turn off the amp models. But I think other things were distracting me that evening. I was not satisfied AT ALL with my tone, and I KNOW it's not Franklin's fault.

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

Do you have any need for loops, more than two delay times, or stuff like that?

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

I bought my DL4 used on eBay for $150. I would consider that to be more than reasonable for tap tempo, three presets, all of the different delay types, stereo outs, true bypass or echo that trails off after the delay is turned off, etc.

As for the EchoPark, I haven't played through one. I would assume that it's very much like if not identical to the digital delay in the DL4, which is the model that I use 99.9% of the time.

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

I've used my XT as a multieffects box through several amps, and it sounds absolutely fine to my ears. I did have to tweak it a bit though - you can't use all your regular effects presets and expect them to work. And yes, you must turn amp modelling off. Keep trying before you go spending money on something you probably don't need.

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

Just get a really long cord, and play really far away from your amp. You'll get natrual delay. That's always the best.

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

did you listen to Rid's clip of the Red Repeat?

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

i'm thinking it might be just what i need as well!?

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

Don't worry. This isn't some $500 pedal.

:laugh2: :laugh2:

I've been pretty impressed with Luke's DL-4, but they only make them in China. :(

If you can find one of those it might be advantageous to play through all the settings and find one you like so you'll know which pedal to go for.

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

I've been looking into delays as well. I haven't been testing them out to find out what sounds the best to me, but as far as price/value and features, the Boss Gigadelay seems to be the clear winner. I didn't vote because I'm sure there are more bros out there that have more experience than I do with these things.

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

Check out the Boss DD-3. Great sounding, easy to dial in, nothing too fancy. I've got the predecessor, DD-2, and love it. They're just good solid delays.

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

i have never had luck using a delay in front of an amp when i want the amp to provide the tube break up/distortion ... it can work ok in front of the amp for clean sounds, or when the distortion is coming from a pedal before the delay unit ... i have never had bad luck putting delay in a loop

good luck

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

I have a DD-6 and an EH Deluxe Memory Man. The DMM is by far the most lush delay pedal I have ever play through. That's my studio delay pedal. Until I went back to a rack, I used a Boss DD-6 for all my live work. They're cheap and get the job done. I also like that when you turn it off, it finishes the decay.

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

with prices coming, down, check out the DL4...tap tempo (every delay needs this), rhthmic delays, chorused delays, auto-wah'd delays, and they trail off when you turn it off- if you want them to. Add an expression pedal and morph between different settings. Oh yeah, the looping...worth the price of the pedal alone.

Re: Help LesStrat choose a delay pedal

I liked the Delays I had when I had a POD so, I would probally say get a Line 6 unit. I HATED the sounds I got from the Boss DD series! Most of it was unuseable and cheesy sounding!
