Help Me Choose an Amp!

Re: Help Me Choose an Amp!

I use a closed back cab and 50 watt head cause I play bass heavy music

and ya a 15 watter can easily be heard with any drummer but the low end in a mix is not there at all

I play mostly country with a tele. There wasn't a whole lot of low end there even when I used a Boogie DC-5!

Re: Help Me Choose an Amp!

you should look at more amps under 50 watts. trust me 30 is plenty. but some amps to look at: fender twin reverb, Marshall jtm45, marshall jcm800, vox ac30, orange ad30, orange rocker 30, orange rockerverb 50, orangethunderverb, fender bassman, fender deville, fender deluxe reverb, marshall jubilee, fender hot rod deluxe. those are basically the good amps i would buy if i had infinite money haha. if i had to pick 3 i would say: Fender twin/deluxe reverb, marshall jtm45, and orange rockerverb 50.

Re: Help Me Choose an Amp!

That really depends. I could get a nice clean tone from a Blues Junior over the top of our (rather loud) drummer. The amount of clean headroom will vary amongst amps with even the same wattage rating.

I've never played with a drummer that quiet.

Re: Help Me Choose an Amp!

it boils down to what the user wants

undoubtedly many shows and jams were completed with an unmic'd blues junior 15 watt 112 combo

you must ask yourself is that the tone you want? Yes you will hear notes even with the drums and bassguitar (if he does not turn up)

but I do not want that sound, I need heavy chugging that lock in with the double bass drums, and are not dwarfed by them ;)

Re: Help Me Choose an Amp!

I don't know what your budget is, but considering the amps you listed, sounds like you're in the 700-1000 range.

That being said, for the style you play and for the features you're looking for, an EVH 5150III Mini sounds up your alley. Get yourself either the matching 2x12 or really any good sounding 2x12 with some Vintage 30's in them, you should pretty much be able to nail any tone with that kind of set-up and have more than enough capability to be heard over a drummer.
