help me choose

Alright, so im still stuck on this problem with getting a bigger/louder amp setup. I want something to use live with my POD, and i want plenty of volume. I need to be able to play shows with another guitarist, a drummer, a bass player and vocals. I would like to get some tubes in my setup, as i have been told they sound the best with a POD, but due to the price, i am flexible with this. I wanna keep the price somewhere around 800$ and under if possible. My band is has a pretty loud PA, but its not always at access with some of the gigs we will be playing, so i need something that could hold its own when the PA isnt there to help me. So my choices are:

1. the Atomic amp. The ONLY problem i have with this is its 18 watts. i know its tube watts, but still, i dont know if its going to be able to be heard through all of those instruments playing anything from raggae to rock. this amp would work awsome with our PA, but for those times i wont have that luxary, im not so sure it will work. please correct me if im wrong.

2.Power amp (tube or solid state) and a cab. Id probably get a 4x10 cab or a 2x12 cab just for the sake of space. As for the power amp, ill take anything as long as it is loud enough, and as long as it will sound good. My only problem here is price.

3. A combo amp. Again, tube or solid state. My problem here is i dont wana get an amp where i will bypass all of the preamp controls. seems like a waste of money.

So any suggestions u guys have for me would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Re: help me choose

I plug my Boss GT-6 into a Peavey Classic 60/60 tube power amp and then into a 2x12" open bqack cab loaded with V30's. I'm happy with this set up and can cover a lot of ground, style and output-wise.

Re: help me choose

I got my Peavey power amp used at a pawn shop for $100. It only needed new tubes. :burnout:

Probably the best person to speak to on that would be InstituteOfNoise, I believe he runs 2 in stereo, hopefully he'll be about sometime soon to let you know the score...

Re: help me choose

18w is loud enough to blow you away. I'm looking at an 18w amp as we speak because 30w is just too loud for most applications (although I get good tone with it at lower volumes). It's still better than a 50w head (pure overkill IMHO) and all those other high wattage death contrapations ;)

Re: help me choose

Maybe i will take a run down to my guitar shop and try an 18 watt tube (if i can find one). if not, ill look at other wattages. thanks. any more suggestions or help is still appreciated.
