Help me chose!

Ok, here's the deal, I can either get a Marshall JMP-1 Preamp and a Mesa Boogie 20/20 poweramp, or a DSL/TSL 50/60W head for about the same price, about $900-1000 used. Which would you chose? I need a new amp for my new band and we play some kind of metal, so I need some quality distortion and also useful cleans though they're not the most important thing to worry about.

Cheers.

Ok, my opinion for what it's worth. I would go with the Marshall DSLv50, many Marshall freaks say that it's the best production amp Marshall has made since the non MV Superleads. It will give you good cleans and nice classic Marshall distortion.

I'd be a little apprehensive about a Marshall pre-amp and a Mesa power amp, but that's just me.

There's a reason Adrian/Dave/Janick all use the JMP-1. It's my favorite Marshall by far. With an EL34 it would be heavenly sounding. It's the most versitile amp I've ever played. It's very easy to use too. I give it my highest regards, especially for metal. You can PM me for some more input and specs if you want. What kind of cab would you be running? And I got my JMP-1/9200 combo for $700. Costs about $2500-$3000 new. A JCM2000 new costs about $1000 more than I got my amp for.
