help me decide a bass combo

hi buddies,

i want to buy me a smaller combo for jammin with some new guys,
where i will play bass instead of guitar. i already own a 150w top with
a bigger 112 cab, but that's an overkill.
the new setup should fit my jazzbass, musicstyle will be blues/jazz/latino
(well we still don't know yet really). and if ever on stage, it should act as my
monitor with link to the bigger amp. i like those 10" kickback designs,
but can't really decide on the model.

i thought about a hartke A35 as cheapest solution, but dunno if it would
be loud enough as a stage monitor later on. reliabilty is another point
where i don't have a clue regarding current amp hw.
is a gallien-krueger backline 110 ii more reliable/loud/bettersounding?
well it has distortion which i don't need, but lacks the limiter.
the hartke kickback 10 would already consume my money limit, but is
it worth the difference?

i already studied harmony central, but most of the reviews actually bypass
the aspects of interest.

cheers, martin

Re: help me decide a bass combo

I don't know much about bass amps, I was just gonna offer you my old Peavey bass combo. It's 200 watts with one 15" speaker...maybe with all that bass volume you won't need a monitor :D

Personally, I wouldn't go less than 300w SS and 1x15. Anything less, and you're not hearing yourself over drums. IME anyway...

Re: help me decide a bass combo

guys, i have a 150w 112 bass rig which is fine.
i was looking for something lighter and more efficient.

thanks for the peavey offer. i don't really like the peavey bass sound.
i had one and wasn't really sad when i blew it.

i'd be happy if anyone knows one or some of the amps i mentioned.
good alternatives in handy 10" or 12" kickbacks are apreciated

cheers

Re: help me decide a bass combo

i will decide for the hartke kickback 10.
seems to be a sturdy thing, which will have enough power.
my dealer offered me a good deal for bass+combo.
i am really looking forward to it.

Re: help me decide a bass combo

the hartke kickback 10 arrived yesterday.

it goes nicely deep, dry and loud for it's size. the shapecontrol is a good feature
but slightly an overkill due to the equalizer itself is already very efficient.
soundquality using my jazzbass is making me addict. seems to be loud enough
(thanks to 120w) by far if used as a monitor. a best buy in my point of view.
can't wait to try it out next jamsession.

If that's not enough, when I was at the Aerosmith concert last weekend in Helsinki Tom Hamilton had a wall of the blue diamond series behind him! **** it looked nice!
