Hi folks. I'm looking to replace the HFS pickups on my Custom 24 with something a little more refined but I wanna change the look as well and I can't decide what I should do.

The guitar originally came with creme rings (which I still have in the case) but the prior owner changed them into black, which I like.

The pickups themselves are what I'm having trouble with. I was thinking brushed (not aged) nickel but now I'm not so sure. I mocked up zebras and black/white ones but I thought I'd sound off here.

The mockups are below. Vote in the poll. Whaddya think? Should I choose one of the mocked up options? Stay with the current look? Go with something else entirely?

Brushed Nickel:

Black/white:

Zebra:

Guitar as it appears now:

Invalid poll - no Rob option.

I voted for leaving things as they are - especially if you are happy with the sounds. Black/black/cherry red has something of an SG look about it. I would take this further by fitting black Gibson knobs with the metal inserts.

Definately Brushed Nickel. Covered pickups on a PRS are absolutely beautiful!

Re: Help me decide on my PRS' new look...

I kind of like the black pickups as is. Might like to see it with the creme rings on it though.

Re: Help me decide on my PRS' new look...

I voted Brushed Nickel, 2nd would be black.

If I did go Zebra it would be Red/Black.

White and Black with the black rings. Zebra with the crème rings. But I also like the black/black look as well as the covered look.

The pickups aren't bad, they're just.... not really good. they're kind of "meh". This guitar deserves better.

Plus I do like the current PRS Crystal-looking knobs so those are staying.

Paint it blaze orange then put a Floyd on it.

am I getting close?

Dont like the back coils on that one for some reason... I would go with either the brushed or nickle covers..

Re: Help me decide on my PRS' new look...

Nickel with black rings, the zebras/B&W options don't work for me.

Oddly, Im not normally a fan of covered pickups, but I like the first pic with the covers on it.. Second choice is solid black and maybe get some rings that match the hardware to offset em a bit..

I found this site that sells pickup rings in aluminum - you can get polished, satin, or brushed aluminum as well as satin or brushed anodized black. It's subtle but a nice touch to upgrade from plastic.

I think brushed regular aluminum would look good if I stayed with the black/black look, or brushed black aluminum if I went with nickel rings.

White and Black with the black rings. Zebra with the crème rings. But I also like the black/black look as well as the covered look.

JOLLY approved of all four colour schemes because he would get four of the same guitar. :D

Mine was originally black rings with black pickups also. Looked darker than I liked. So I put in a set of nickel covered Dragon IIs. Found a set of low profile brass rings. Had to route the top ring so it would fit in the spacing. Reemed the rotary switch cavity and dropped in a 3-way. Made the tone a push/pull for coil taps.
