Help me figure out how much my guitar is worth!

I have a 1985 Gibson custom shop Rudolf Schenker signature flying v. It's beaten to hell but I was wondering how much a mint condition model would cost. Do you guys know? For specs it has what I believe to be a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge, I have no idea what's in the neck, and it's got a Kahler bridge tremolo which has been swapped out for a fixed Kahler (though I still have the original bridge and the locks) If I can't get a lot of money for this I probably won't sell it because it rocks. (though the second fret buzzes but that can be fixed) It's the typical scorpions yellow/black look with the bridge pickup being cream and the neck pickub being black. It's very light so I'm assuming it's made out of Alder but I could be wrong. The finish has been cracked and beaten in a few places which actually makes it look even cooler! I'll post pics when I can find them. I'm at work right now :P

I'm not a big fan of that color or V shaped guitars, but I'd keep that one if I were you.

Scorpions are calling it quits... I wonder if that guitar will increase in value. I say hang on to it and carefully watch the used market for similar guitars and see what they're selling for.

I'd also try to study the demand for Scorpions stuff. Study their fanbase etc... See if any Scoprions fans are willing to pay top dollar for that axe.

Otherwise keep it. It is a unique guitar.

Good luck.

good idea. That's what I'll probably do. Once again it's a sick guitar anyway

Re: Help me figure out how much my guitar is worth!

Check Ebay dude, that's pretty much the market these days. Usually when you sell something to a Guitar store they will check ebay for the going prices. But that seems like a pretty rare axe, so they may not actually have any on there, but do check.

Re: Help me figure out how much my guitar is worth!

Funky axe.
Is that a locking trem of some variety?
I suspect that, if it is a trem, that will affect the desirability for a scorpions fan.
It's a bit of an oddity, but I suspect may only be worth normal second hand Gibson money rather than adding much of a premium for rarity... but I've been proven wrong so many times before

I'm afraid so. Next tour will be the last. Then again Status Quo said that back in the mid eighties and are still going.

Pop quiz, who's older Rudolf Shenker or Francis Rossi?

Re: Help me figure out how much my guitar is worth!

Michael Schenker is more associated with the Gibson V than Rudy, especially in that color scheme. Granted Rudy used one for a while, but that guitar was done by Gibson to go along with Michael's B&W V.

The Kahler will reduce the value unless Rudy can be proven to have used one. Even then, it's limiting the market to Rudy fans. Mikey fans want the block inlays and rounded head. Everyone else )V fans in general) want the '67 V specs of a pickguard and stopbar/tom layout. Anything else and it ain't happening.

Mint condition I've seen them go as high as $1200-$1500 on Ebay in good times (back when the Scorps had that one with Alien Nation - the album cover of the crowd being shadowed by the bright light). More frequently I've seen them go around $600-$800 because of the Kahler and yellowed clearcoat that was originally supposed to be white, not yellow, and not everyone views the yellowing as a good thing as it's often caused by body oils and grime.

Finish crackling is also not always viewed as good. Playability becomes inconsequential at that point in relation to dollar value. What you have is a Player, not an Investment Piece that will increase in dollar value. The people who pay high prices are Investors, not Players (at least not intent on playing what they Invest in). Any work done to it lowers the dollar value, including stripping the yellowed clearcoat off and putting on new nitro (referred to by many as "restoring"), fretwork, and swapping the bridge.

It's a piece of crap, and worthless. If you want to send it to me, I'll take it so you don't have to look at the hunk of junk anymore. ;)

Re: Help me figure out how much my guitar is worth!

It came with a fixed kahler installed, I replaced it with the kahler trem which the guy sent along with the guitar, and then I put the fixed back in because the trem wasn't that great. :( I'm thinking I'll hold on to it for now unless I discover that it's worth way more money than I think it is.
