Help me find out about these woods

Okay, I recently found a guitar that's made out of hardwood and another guitar that's made out of mahogany. Are they both good?

Re: Help me find out about these woods

What kind of "hardwood"? Mahogany is probably my favorite wood for a guitar, at least right now...

"Hardwood?" I would stay away from any manufacturer who claims the guitar is made of "hardwood," whatever that is. On the other hand, mahogany is very commonly used in guitar building. A bit heavier than some other types of wood, but it sounds great and is pretty durable.

I'm not sure. My friend's guitar brand "s101" is that strat that they said was hardwood, and the tone of his guitar is amazing(not mouth watering, but at least jaw dropping considering how much he paid)

Re: Help me find out about these woods

"Hardwood" is a very broad, vague description. As has been mentioned, I wouldn't trust someone that told me a guitar was made of that, I'd want specifics.

Re: Help me find out about these woods

Hardwood is a classification of woods, not a specific type. As opposed to Softwoods, like Pine, Spruce and Cedar (Evergreens), hardwoods are well...hard. Mahogany, Maple, Rosewood, Ash, Alder, Ebony and Poplar are all hardwoods.

In other words, if they say "Hardwood," that means it can be almost any species within this very general classification.
